Description

Title: Senior Project Engineer

Location: East Aurora, NY

Rate: $45/hr on w2 without benefits

Duration: 5 Months (with the possibility of extension )

Function:

  • The Senior Project Engineer is a primary motivator and contributor to the analysis, conceptual design, development, and testing of complex control hardware used on military, commercial and NASA vehicles and equipment. The products of the client generally are unique for each customer. Therefore, most new applications require a special, tailored design, even though adaptation of existing designs always should be considered where appropriate. The incumbent will operate either independently or as part of a design/development team, which includes other Department engineers. His/Her primary concerns are system or component performance and integration, both being achieved within budget and prescribed schedules. The incumbent will coordinate the work of drafters, technicians, designers, analysts, manufacturing engineers and others who assist in specific assignments.
  • In the early stages of a new program, the Senior Project Engineer will consult with the customer, establish the problem statement, conceive of potential hardware solutions to the problem, often through extensive trade studies, and then create a successful technical proposal. This phase is critical in that it establishes the basis for future design, and for contract negotiations.
  • During the design and development phase the Sr. Project Engineer will guide the evolution of the conceptual design, and serve as focal point for customer communications. He/She is responsible for technical project planning and for development testing. His/Her primary concern is for system or component performance and integration, so he/she will initiate or carry out whatever analysis tasks are necessary to ensure specification performance compliance. These could include computer dynamic modelling, error analysis, transient failure behavior analysis, and failure modes and effects analysis TMEA). He/she is also responsible for managing engineering project budgets and schedules through close coordination with the program manager.
  • The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for communicating with the involved Division support personnel, keeping them informed of progress and educating them on the operation and performance of the design. He/She must frequently solicit their aid and support to achieve difficult schedule objectives.
  • The incumbent's responsibilities may include the direct supervision of up to four subordinate engineers and/or project or product-engineering technicians. This would include setting their workload and priorities, counseling and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Since this individual will often be seen by customers as the responsible technical representative of the company, he/she must be able to communicate fluently to a wide variety of audiences. He/She will be required to travel frequently and organize and make presentations to customers.

Education:

  • To achieve the position of Senior Project Engineer, an individual will have a BS degree in Engineering, probably an advanced degree, with a depth of understanding achieved through experience in the design, analysis, and development of complex electrohydraulic, electromechanical, or electropneumatic servomechanisms.
  • In addition, he/she must have a proven record of successful development programs working as a part of a project team
