Satellite Network Systems Engineer - Belgium - long term contract

My client a market leader within the space sector are looking to recruit a Satellite Network Systems Engineer on a long term contract basis.

The role can be described as follows:

Task Content

Your main job responsibilities will include:

  • Designing networking solutions for systems wherein the network nodes are Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites
  • Defining associated payload road maps, requirements and development needs
  • Interacting in these definition tasks with the Department's payload architecture designers and implementation specialists
  • Participating to development/demonstration project build-up (including bids, partnership development, project implementation)

This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Profile

The typical candidate will have a university degree in electrical engineering, with specialization in data communication networks, and as a minimum 5+ years of recent professional experience in that field. The candidate must be familiar with the domain of satellite telecommunications.

His/her core skills will include:

  • Flexible routing and switching solutions in a network providing mainstream carrier data services
  • Specific knowledge of carrier Ethernet access network and associated service types
  • Network management and control
  • Network security

The specific domain in which his/her skills will be applied make familiarity with the following domains and issues mandatory:

  • Features of LEO satellite constellations: call admission control, handover algorithms
  • Features of satellite links: limited bandwidth, delay, fading
  • Features of satellite payloads: limited power and computational power
  • Radio-resource management: channel allocation optimizing quality of service versus bandwidth utilization

Knowledge of the following will be valuable assets:

  • Wireless air interfaces including efficient & adaptive modulation and coding, interference mitigation techniques, power control schemes, terminal acquisition, admission and authentication
  • Regulatory mechanisms
  • Space project development stages and relevant applicable standards (ECSS)
