One of the major UK construction and infrastructure companies is looking to appoint a Commissioning Manager to join their team on site at TMF Capenhurst.

This is a temporary position initially for 2 months.

Role purpose:

The Commissioning Manager will develop the processes and procedures for the commissioning of plant and equipment on the TMF Project as designated by the Turnover Lead. This role will work in concert with similar roles of other contractors on site and liaise directly with the Commissioning Manager of the Principal Contractor to safely and timeously execute the commissioning activities to the plan to achieve the B1, B2 and B3 handover dates of Completion of Construction.

Key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Assist where appropriate in the selection of the Specialist Sub-contractor to carry out the commissioning from a technical point of view, making sure all elements of the project are covered
  • Check all documentation for commissioning of all systems is available in the correct format and that all design figures are completed prior to the start of commissioning
  • Execute and demonstrate all system commissioning and provide paperwork to demonstrate that the work has been completed.
  • Check all documentation has been completed correctly and ensure copies are available for collation in the LTR's
  • Manage the delivery of SAT and handover from specialist subcontractors in conjunction with the Electrical Engineering Lead.
  • Prepare written reports for all commissioning activities and provide percentage progress on all aspects of commissioning
  • Note any areas of concern on this report for action by Commercial/Site Management.
  • Collate all drawings and specifications to allow the Commissioning Engineers to monitor and track progress.
  • Check that the Site Supervisors have completed the Pre-Commissioning Checklist to ensure all transit restraints etc have been removed from Plant Items and that all systems are fully complete
  • Check that all water systems, including water chemical cleaning and flushing have been carried out. Check certification of all systems prior to any balancing of water systems
  • Where load tests are to be carried out, to check that all information and equipment are available to carry out these tests.
  • Where necessary carry out environmental tests after the Controls Elements of a project are complete and operating in Auto-Control to allow results to be achieved and documented
  • Ensure that installations are fully functional to agreed specification
  • Contribute expert advice to the design tendering and installation process
  • Manage specialist subcontractors and suppliers including budgetary control
  • Provide regular reports to the construction director.
  • Set up and maintains detailed records for commissioning processes and obtain necessary system certification/sign offs
  • Commissioning Programmes including progress monitoring, liaison with other stakeholders and interfaces
  • Provide support and advice in the preparation of commissioning programme and progress reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all Company Standards and Procedures

The ideal candidate will have following skills and experience:

  • Significant management experience within the construction or relevant support services industries
  • A strong understanding of technical issues and trends in the construction sectors, including specialist markets, with an ability to differentiate against market propositions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to build strong relationships at all levels
  • Analytical with good planning and organisational skills
  • Have an innovative approach to business solutions and strongly results focused
  • Customer focused
  • Good commercial acumen with sound market awareness
  • Good analysis and report preparation
  • Strategic thinking
  • Ideally degree in appropriate discipline. Corporate membership of a professional body is desirable, together with evidence of recent management/leadership development
