Deputy Engineering Manager (Mechanical) - Shipbuilding

A Deputy Engineering Manager (Mechanical) within Shipbuilding is required to work on a six month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our defence client based in Glasgow.

This is a 6 month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Engineering Manager (Mechanical) contract role

  • Provide engineering and management expertise to the delivery of RCB2 Mechanical Engineering Team.
  • To be responsible for the development of mechanical engineering design.
  • Supporting and where necessary, deputising for the Engineering Manager - Survivability including attendance at meetings and liaising with other project stakeholders (both internal and external)
  • Directing and managing the workflow of the Survivability team, distributing tasks and activities and ensuring delivery of those tasks to schedule and in accordance with company standards and processes
  • Interface and engagement with other teams (including Stage 1, Stage 2, Wholeship and Supply Chain), ensuring that their requirements are, where necessary, prioritised and actioned appropriately by the Survivability team.

Key skills required for the Engineering Manager (Mechanical)

  • Ability to operate in a large, complex project at engineering management level in a multi-disciplinary, Matrix management environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in use of ship design processes and systems to LCM guidelines
  • Extensive knowledge of Project Management techniques (EV,CPI,SPI, Risk etc)
  • Technical knowledge and problem solving in mechanical systems.

The role is based in Glasgow - Commutable from Scotstoun, Kilmarnock, Paisley, Greenock, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Edinburgh.
