Content Manager - Language Learning Web Service

London. 12 Months + Public Sector.

Content Manager required to help manage the maintenance and development of a language learning website. This involves developing and/or editing language learning content for the website, implementing changes in the online offer through the development of new online components and iterative development of the web platform, implementing and enforcing digital standards (eg accessibility, usability, Intellectual Property, data security), providing marketing and customer services for the delivery and development of web services and activities for agreed target groups, and working with internal and external teams and stakeholders.

Main accountabilites

  • Liaising with the Development Editor of Online Learning to identify, adapt, commission and publish content for service, in the form of a yearly content plan in line with agreed editorial and methodological parameters. Content proposals will be submitted each March and added to the yearly plan subject to approval, to be delivered each April for the duration of the contract.
  • Editing, scheduling and publishing website content, and writing activities as required including a weekly podcast, player profile and promotional materials. These materials will be developed based on the project objectives, topical and trending ideas and feedback from users.
  • Shooting and editing video as required and creating graphics, titles and subtitle files - this will include creating and embedding motion graphics for the English for Coaches course and shooting and editing 2 new low level video projects
  • identifying and meeting user requirements by designing and implementing changes through the development of new online components of the offer using a range of software packages
  • liaising with the external website development and maintenance company, to produce iterative developments to the website on Drupal, and coordination with the support company on any fixes or changes required
  • implementing and enforcing digital standards such as accessibility, usability, Intellectual Property, data security, and risk management, and ensuring all content produced conforms to WCAG 2.0 AA standards for accessibility
  • monitoring and evaluation of the site, providing regular and timely evaluation and feedback data
  • facilitating regular webinars for Skills coaches and participants using online broadcast tools and meeting software
  • contributing to market research and developing and applying strategies to understand and meet customer needs and expectations. This will involve the application of event tracking using Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics
  • moderating user generated content, and engaging and supporting users across the full range of products including forums, courses, community areas, and social media spaces
  • Managing social media campaigns and/or online competitions, to be shared through social media channels and through paid-for campaigns on Facebook and Twitter.
  • liaising with the Development Editor, Online Learning over the planning and management of learning team on global web learning and teaching strategies and web functionalities
  • (DBS) check (formerly known as CRB) is required for anyone working on this project.

Skills and knowledge

  • This service requires confidence working across video, audio, written, social and interactive content streams, and the ability to develop content using the following programmes:
  • Web publishing using Drupal and Interactive Authorable Exercise tools
  • Print material development and graphic design using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Video editing and motion graphics development for the web using Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro.
  • Audio editing using Adobe Audition.
  • Live streaming events and presentations using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) and Real Time video and audio editing software.
  • Experience of managing a website and dealing with external suppliers
  • Experience of commissioning, creating, and editing football/sports related content for learners
  • Experience of commissioning, creating, and editing written, audio and video content to serve as input for learners at different stages of language development based on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) descriptors and corporate frequency tools
  • Ability to produce reports for stakeholders that collate, analyse and present analytics and other user data in a range of formats. This includes a strong working knowledge of Webtrends and Google Analytics (setting and monitoring analytics goals).
  • Experience of working as part of an online team, including collaboration on large scale materials development projects, using collaboration tools such as Google Docs, Dropbox, Skype, Slack, GitHub, Trello, etc.
  • Experience of working with external stakeholders
  • Experience of interaction with learners online, through community building activity and moderation.
  • Experience managing social media campaigns/online competitions; shared through social media channels and through paid-for campaigns on Facebook and Twitter.
  • 5 years teaching experience; different ages and levels; different contexts
