Role/Context
The department require an experienced specialist digital content designer for a short term (approx. 3 months) appointment to help review, enhance and develop content on an interim Product Recall site.
This role will also lead on reviewing other priority areas of the GOV.UK content to ensure that it is developed with a user centred focus and aligned to GOV.UK style guides and tone. We want clear, consistent content that help our users know who we are, what we do and how we can help them.
We need someone who can provide a clear, honest critique of what we currently have and provide clear direction in how to bring that up to a standard that is recognised as GOV.UK good practice.
You will also provide direction and coaching to an internal content designer to help develop long term and sustainable capability in content design within the department. This internal resource will have content experience and will have previously managed content on our GOV.UK pages. However, a priority will be to help them understand what makes good GOV.UK content and to develop their content style to deliver that.
In terms of relevant experience, you will:
- Be an experienced content designer with at least 3 years' experience in working on digital products.
- Have experience of writing for GOV.UK having contributed to Government digital services that, ideally, are currently in public beta.
- Understand the current style guides and content good practice associated with GOV.UK and the Government digital service standard.
- Have experience on working with user experience (UX) teams to understand the content needs of users and testing content with them, iterating it as required.
- Be prepared to challenge current thinking around how our GOV.UK content currently looks and provide an honest assessment that helps us achieve our goals
- Have experience working with, and challenging, policy teams on how to best represent policy requirements on GOV.UK
- Have experience of coaching others in content design and in particular, writing for GOV.UK
- Have BPSS clearance
