Description

An interesting role has arisen for an experienced Content Designer to join their team. This position is within the public sector and for a 12 month contract.

We're working towards making government services and information simpler, clearer and faster for citizens and businesses. To do that, we need content designers who write high-quality, user-focused content, and understand the web, technology and people.

If you want to be a part of this team, you'll need to be able to:

  • take complex language and processes and make them simple to understand
  • make the case for user-focused design
  • be able to explain your decisions clearly

We work together. You'll be expected to work with the whole team, on all and any of our projects. Sometimes at a moment's notice. That could mean working with developers, designers, policy specialists, legal teams, senior management - anyone we need to produce world-class online products and services.

Responsibilities within the role:

  • help with developing content plans and attend planning meetings with contacts
  • develop and apply content and format strategies with support from a senior content designer
  • develop and manage relationships - both within GDS and with other government departments

You'll be:

  • scoping, commissioning, writing, editing and publishing digital content
  • making sure user journeys are the best they can be
  • managing relationships with subject matter experts to make sure content is accurate
  • producing content assets that are accurate, timely, high quality (based on insight and outputs of user testing, relevant to the audience, easily understood, optimised for search engines) and to style
  • choosing the best format for displaying information to the user - if we don't have one, we'll want you to suggest ideas or identify the gap
  • making sure appropriate policy and legal checks within other parts of government happen, and that content is published quickly and efficiently
  • monitoring the performance of content and tools
  • working with a multi-disciplinary team to understand user behaviour and feedback
  • identifying ways to improve the content and the product
  • providing constructive criticism to your colleagues to improve everyone's skills and work

We work in an agile environment. You must be at ease with rapidly changing deadlines, workloads and goals.

Experience desired:

  • extensive experience of writing for the web, with proven ability to create content that is accessible and usable
  • proven experience in using metrics and user feedback to define and improve content
  • proven experience of managing relationships with stakeholders
  • experience in working with content publishing systems
  • experience of using Markdown or basic HTML would be a huge bonus
