Director, Strategic Partnering of Design Works


The Director, Strategic Partnering is responsible for developing new external client accounts and project opportunities for DesignworksUSA. The position works collaboratively within the company to create business opportunities and manage new client relations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree Relevant to a content field of our service suite (i.e.: Product Design, Interaction Design, Strategy)
Master’s Degree preferred
Strong leadership and transactional skills in international organizations
Must be able to manage multicultural teams in an international work environment
Ability to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and to promote creativity
Strong verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills
3 – 5 Years Team leadership
7 – 10 Years Business development or related experience in a similar industry
Applies technical training and has some knowledge of other related disciplines / processes
Firm understanding of the design process
35% overnight and international travel may be required
Excellent presentation skills
Attention to detail and ability to deliver work at the highest quality.
Key Objectives

The Director of Strategic Partnering is a top level contributor in setting and successfully achieving Design works comprehensive future targets.
The Director leads strategic partnering efforts and provides keen insight on behalf of Design works global brand, partnering and development strategies. The Director executes new client acquisition from identifying opportunities for engagements within targeted industry sectors to closing new project contracts.
The Director is responsible for building major new accounts and generates significant revenue and growth potential for the studio. This person leads through his or her extensive knowledge, experience and best judgment to leverage Design works reputation as a leading global competitor of cutting edge design and creative business consulting balancing the company needs in new business, new engagement types and future opportunities.
The Director investigates new business model possibilities and proposes different working partnerships for Design works. This role will contribute significantly to this achievement of the DW Long Range Plan for new revenue streams in the future. This entails entering relationships with organizations that compliment Design works strategic objectives, service offerings and value system.
Through application of his or her wealth of knowledge, the Director of Strategic Partnering drives the strategic direction of Design works to maximize quality and value while growing Design works business relationships.
Major Responsibilities

The Director achieves targets by overseeing client networks for the studio that align with DesignworksUSA strategic objectives, service offering and value system.

Engagement Development

Manage prospect and strategize the search for new business opportunities,
with new clients in the assigned target industries and regions.
Develops leads into the leads management system.
Manage the new project/client scope potential for the studio.
Manage targeting clients, and create strategies and action plans from initial client contact to capture.
Supports the global and local account strategies jointly with the Studio management team
Supports cross studio continuous alignment for effective collaboration.
Client Development

Create strategies and program proposals, including scoping for new programs, program schedule and budget preparation with the Department Director, Director Shanghai Studio, Creative Consulting and Design.
Create the parameters for the negotiations of scope and budget with potential new clients.
Consult the production of presentations for clients: identity deliverables, client’s interest and engagement expectations.
Present and pitch in front of clients up to CEO level.
Manage interaction with legal departments (client and internal) regarding contracts, agreements and standard terms.
Develop plans and oversee development of marketing and sales material (case studies, value modules, sales pitch, proposal standards)
Ongoing Project Follow-up

Support post project work (debrief, DW presentation) in conjunction with DW-4 and directors.
Manage client relations (conflict management, client entertainment, maintain contact database).
Manage the hand off to Creative Consulting and/or Design at the proper time for account development and growth.
New Engagement Explorations

Support the investigation of new business types (Royalty agreements, IP models, shared risk models, etc.) as assigned
Support the Department Director on strategies for integrating new business models into DW.
Support argumentation for future business models and new engagement types.
