Safety Engineer - Control Damage Hazards, Safety Case Reporting, Hazard Identification

A Safety Engineer with Control Damage Hazards, Safety Case Reporting, and Hazard Identification skills/experience is required to work on a twelve month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Cumbria

Overview of the Safety Engineer contract role

  • To support the Safety Case, undertake Scenario modelling for bounding worst case Control Damage Hazards (CDH) events eg Flood, Steam Release etc.
  • Engagement with the engineering community to identify and capture supporting information for the assessment of control damage hazards
  • Assist in the authorship of the control damage hazard Safety Case Report
  • To undertake control damage hazard ALARP assessments together with the engineering community using appropriate processes, gaining approval from the client and naval authority certification body
  • Provide control damage hazard support and advice to the wider engineering community
  • Planning and co-ordination of control damage hazard identification activities including the organisation of workshops with relevant stakeholders including systems experts, maintainers and operators.
  • Authoring of control damage hazard reports in support of the Safety Case.
  • Attendance at design team meetings.
  • To undertake any other duties required of the control damage hazard SIT in order to deliver to plan.

Key skills required for the Safety Engineer

  • Experience in conducting and managing hazard analysis on a complex and hazardous platform
  • Experience of writing Safety Case Reports
  • A good understanding and appreciation of hazard identification and analysis techniques
  • Working knowledge of Quality/Safety Management Systems
  • A good understanding of process development and design philosophies
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good management, co-ordination and organisational skills
  • Skilled in the use of standard Microsoft packages and specialist packages as required
