My client, a leading automotive manufacturer, based in Warwickshire, is looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer to join their Powertrain division on a long-term contract basis.

Position Description:
Mechanical Engineer - Base Engines Fault Diagnosis Support Engineer
This role is to support the AJ200 Engine Programme Management team in the delivery of the new 4 cylinder Diesel & Petrol Engines, responsible for management and fault diagnosis of all prototype Engines installed into PD Engineering prototype fleet vehicles. Supporting the Base Engines VoR Lead Engineer to be the first point of call for all vehicle operational issues. Responsible for monitoring the operational status of all AJ200 equipped prototype vehicles, diagnosing engine faults as reported by users, arranging repair or replacement of the engines as required. Negotiating with vehicle workshops as required to get engines repaired, removed from and refitted to prototype cars. Tracking the repair status of failed units and keeping the vehicle user fully informed on the status of their engine. Planning, implementing, and tracking the status of any fleet wide repair or rework activities identified by the D&R team. Generating regular weekly status reports on fleet status and key issues.

Experience Required:
Very good mechanical knowledge of Engine systems and technologies with proven mechanical diagnostic skills.
Good PC skills using Excel spreadsheets to create and maintain Engine tracker documentation and use of PowerPoint to create weekly management reports.
Good customer interface skills to keep the customer fully informed on the status of their failed engine.

Education Required:
Experience of diagnosing engine mechanical issues.
Experience of diagnosing engine electronics issues would be of benefit.
Experience of having tracked a fleet of engines or cars knowing the operational status of each.
A proven track record in communicating with customers and suppliers in a professional manner; able to negotiate satisfactory solutions to problems/issues.
Working knowledge of key systems/processes/tools such as GPIRS, RPS, WERS, AIMs, etc. beneficial.
Happy to use own initiative to tackle problems and flexible in your approach to achieve the best programme results.

Education Preferred:
Some experience of engine electronics diagnostics would be advantageous.
Preferably educated to degree level.
Other higher educational qualifications will be considered depending on other skills and experience offered.
The role may require regular inter-site travel therefore, it is expected that candidates will hold a valid UK Drivers licence.
