Description

Senior Civil Engineer - Contract

Looking for a new Civil Engineer role within the ever-expanding energy transmission and distribution sector. This Civil Engineer role will provide you with the challenges and experience to move forward with your career!

Highly motivated Civil Engineers, with a range of experience levels, are needed to provide their expertise on a long term cabling project.
Main duties will include:
  • Assessment of civil engineering issues, and delivery of solutions, for cable installation designs, e.g. dealing with poor ground conditions.
  • Answering Site Technical Queries, from the site team or the installation subcontractor, supported by the Head Office design team as necessary. These will generally concern interpretation of approved drawings and assessing the subcontractor's wish to deviate from the approve drawings.
  • Review of subcontractor's Temporary Works Designs, they will already have been independently checked, but we should review them for 'constructability' and to ensure that the cables can be installed safely.
  • Provide expert advice to the Construction Manager, the Project Managers and the Site Managers.
  • Attend design and progress meetings, if requested.
  • Support the Technical Services Manager in the completion of the remaining drawings yet to be approved.
  • Develop drawings for Minor Changes.

Experience:

Civil engineering projects in the UK and cross-country, not just substation, projects for National Grid. Experience in gas or overhead line projects would be considered, but experience in cable projects would be better. A clear understanding of National Grid's working practices, and the importance of maintaining discipline and high standards, is crucial

To be considered for the role, it is essential to be familiar with:
  • TP188 - National Grid's Transmission Procedure for Design Management.
  • TP184 - National Grid's Transmission Procedure for Temporary Works.
  • BS5975 - Code of practice for temporary works procedures and the permissible stress design of falsework.

Daily rate is based on experience, and the contract will be for 12 months minimum. The work will be based in the North West UK.
