Operations Controller

The company: We are a growing medical device company in Ireland, currently commercializing our innovative Medical devices in markets worldwide from our HQ and through our subsidiary in the US. Utilizing our novel proprietary materials and technology, we design, develop, manufacture and deliver our innovative orthopaedic devices to provide clear clinical, functional and economic benefits to patients, clinicians and healthcare organisations worldwide.

The Job: As part of our expansion we are looking for a hands-on, dynamic Operations Controller to

co-ordinate and schedule all company operations, particularly production, manufacturing, inventory management logistics and shipping. As the primary point of contact for scheduling and coordinating production and non-production related activities, your role is to support and liaise with the company's R&D and Quality departments, contract manufacturer, suppliers, shippers, third party logistics and the company's US subsidiary to ensure our products are produced shipped and reach our customers on time and within price.

Operations include the following:
  • Production planning and scheduling at our contract manufacturer
  • Resource and material scheduling for production
  • Supply chain management (Raw materials, WIP, Finished stock)
  • Logistics
  • Supplier sourcing, validation and management
  • Support Supplier Quality assurance
  • Assist in the management of pilot production runs
  • Working with the R&D team to finalize design transfer of new products from the R&D department to manufacturing
  • Support Optimization of Manufacturing and Processes
  • Drive continuous improvement.


Production and manufacturing activities are carried out at our contract manufacturer therefore the main role of the OC is to coordinate all stakeholders and schedule production requirements based on customer demand and lead times to ensure our products meet quality requirements and reach our customers on time and within price.

The Candidate:

Candidates should have a flexible work, capable of working without close supervision in a team based environment and possess strong communication and influencing abilities. Excellent attention to detail, proven co-ordination skills and an ability to quickly prioritise workload are required. The successful applicant will be solution orientated, with strong analytical and problem solving skills. Experience in a "Lean " manufacturing driven company would be beneficial as would having worked under an ISO 13485 or a related quality / regulatory system.

Candidate profile:
  • Minimum three years relevant experience in a similar Supply Chain and/or Manufacturing Operations role, preferably in the medical device industry but not essential.
  • Good knowledge and experience of Planning/Scheduling/Inventory management with a detailed understanding of all other Supply Chain functions
  • A high level of working knowledge in an MRP/ MRP / Production Planning System or similar
  • Strong numerical competency plus Excellent Planning and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient user of excel for the purpose of creating and analysing data
  • Proven ability to manage software applications.
  • Experience dealing with customers and suppliers.
  • Previous start-up experience is advantageous.
  • Strong technical aptitude.
  • Posses a clean driving licence with own transport.
  • Available to travel as necessary to support production and training at vendor / customer sites.
  • Ideally a degree in Engineering, Business, or Information Systems is preferred. An IIPMM and/or APICS qualification is desirable.

Key responsibilities of the role:

This role will include production planning and scheduling, inventory control, capacity utilization, logistics, MRP management and documentation duties.

Key responsibilities details:
  • Plan and Schedule Production at contract manufacturer (CM)
  • Monitor daily Production output and co-ordinate schedule variances.
  • Implement and manage an MRP system
  • Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems and confirms material supply and demands.
  • Prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, contract manufacturer capacity/load and inventory requirements.
  • Coordinate relevant production matters with Quality Assurance, R&D, Finance department and management.
  • Schedule and expedite efficient shipping and movement of materials and finished parts
  • Liaise with all departments and external stakeholders to compile requirements to ensure all needs are effectively planned and executed.
  • Inventory management activities necessary to ensure appropriate inventory levels of finished goods, intermediate product, work-in-process, and raw materials.
  • Leading projects on production planning improvements and manufacturing efficiencies
  • Ensuring efficient and effective scheduling that balances Customers requirements with maximum production utilisation and minimum inventory levels.
  • Selection, approval and management of vendors for the supply of goods and services.
  • Liaise with (CM) to ensure materials supply are adequate at all time and in line with company and business objectives.
  • Develop and implement vendor contracts and supply agreements.
  • Develop, maintain and publish key performance indicators on manufacturing adherence to schedule.
  • Control and monitor inventory projections in line with capacity availability
  • Take leadership and accountability for delivering sustainable product cost and purchasing price reductions from within the existing supply base.
  • Drive cost downs and reduce lead times with the company's vendors.
  • Initiate process, cost and continuous improvement ideas.

Remuneration: Negotiable based on relevant experience and suitability.
