Description

Investment Accountant required to work for a large bank, on a 3 - 6 month assignment, based near Bristol.

N.B: For this role, you MUSt have IFRS reporting and PRA/SII returns experience.

Purpose of the Role:

To build up new processes for performing timely detailed analytical reviews of investment accounting ledgers generated by external third party service providers. Investigation and explanation of differences to enhance the oversight over the external third party service providers.

To assist with the periodic production of investment accounting information for the LBG Insurance Division companies for external reporting and internal management information purposes.

To operate reporting processes related to the consolidation of OEICs and SPVs.

To assist with the reconciliation processes of balances within investment accounting ledgers including those generated by external third party service providers.

The role is also expected to provide support to special projects, on investment accounting matters and liaise with accounting and actuarial colleagues outside of investment accounting.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsibility for building up new process for timely detailed analytical review of investment general ledgers balances.
  • Process improvement on reconciliations and controls to operate between general ledger and investment reporting systems (eg Group and Divisional Reporting System, Asset Data Warehouse).
  • To assist with completion of group reporting templates for quarter end reporting requiring an understanding of how investment data reconciles back to underlying ledgers and the ability to investigate and with interaction with various accounting teams, analyse differences.
  • To assist with the monthly, quarterly and annual tasks relating to the OEIC and SPV consolidation into the corporate general ledger and onward reporting into the Group & Divisional Reporting System.
  • Delivery of periodic reports to internal control/governance forums enabling the management of various risks (eg market risk, liquidity risk etc). Assist in preparing other periodic ad hoc reports either to internal control/governance forums or to external parties.
  • Continuous improvement of processes and controls, ensuring adoption of best practice and making best use of IT solutions such as the Asset Data Warehouse.
  • Deal with ad hoc queries from the Finance teams and auditors relating to investment accounting.

Essential:

  • IFRS reporting
  • PRA/SII returns
  • Part/Newly qualified accountant or equivalent with working knowledge of Investment Accounting, including awareness of investment administration practices, investment instruments and their characteristics, investment accounting practice, financial reporting principles and unit pricing.
  • Good analytical review skills in financial instruments and capabilities to investigate and explain the variances and movements in investment related accounts.
  • Good relationship management skills. Able to deal effectively with key contacts across all business areas, both internally and externally.
  • Understanding of importance of risk management.
  • Good communication skills, ability to influence a varied audience, and to provide clear and unambiguous presentation of the facts.
  • Background and good understanding of accounting principles and controls, particularly for oversights over outsourced service providers in investments.
  • Good working knowledge of finance systems and technology.

Desired:

  • Awareness MI delivery to the business, focussing on the use of appropriate and effective reporting tools.
  • Able to accurately estimate and plan allocated work for self and report progress against agreed schedules and tolerances to manager s, stakeholders and projects.
  • Awareness of project management principles.
  • Awareness of data warehouse solutions and/or exposure to multiple data source environments desirable.
  • Awareness of standard data models and schemas.
