An exciting opportunity is available in Parma/Italy for a Senior Network Engineer with very good written and oral English language skills. This position is with an IT company working at a client in the Public Sector.

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

  • Secondary school diploma plus six (6) years of proven experience in the field.
  • 6+ years' experience as Network Engineer in a large-scale inter-network
  • Environment with proven complex network management experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in configuring and managing voice architectures in a ToIP and VoIP environment.
  • 2+ years of proven experience with Cisco Unified Communication Manager, Cisco Unity Voicemail, and Cisco Unified Presence tools.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP, and Cisco IOS support in an environment that includes Windows systems, virtual architectures and enterprise SAN storage.
  • Experience supporting EIGRP, BGP, MPLS and VPNs.
  • Proficient in network switching and signalling fundamentals to include: SIP, MGCP, H.248, SS7, and preferably traditional TDM signalling protocols (ie, GR303).
  • Good understanding of ITIL practices and knowledge of the COBIT framework.
  • Proficient English level; Italian is a plus.

Tasks:

  • Configure, maintain and support local and wide area networks, including the configuration and maintenance of Routers, Switches, Firewalls, load balancers and other network devices.
  • Perform and coordinate effective installation and configuration of network equipment and provides connectivity for new systems.
  • Perform and coordinate effective installation and configuration of IP Telephony and Voice Over IP (VoIP) architectures.
  • Identify root cause of performance issues utilizing problem management techniques and implement corrective actions.
  • Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches and resolve software and hardware related problems.
  • Provide performance monitoring.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of system hardware and software to meet present and future needs, and provides trend analysis to the team.
  • Escalate technical issues to third parties, as appropriate.
  • Evaluation and management of access permissions and privileges.
  • Work with a team to automate management tasks, streamline processes and perform standard administration functions as needed.
  • Design and implement performance metrics and proactively recommend solutions for capacity planning purposes.
  • Provide complete and thorough documentation. Plan and perform appropriate procedures, documentation, inventory assessment, and other procedures related to the network and IP Telephony environment.

This position is offered as a freelance contract in Parma.
