Senior UNIX/Linux Systems Engineer - London - Contract - 6 months

This senior role is within the Platform UNIX team located in London. The individual will be the aligned SA for the ITO business area and will work with fellow ITO aligned team members in Singapore, KL and London. ITO has a large Unix/Linux estate running applications such as DaaS (Database-as-a-Service), CaaS (Citrix-as-a-Service), NIS, Reuters TREP, BladeLogic, GRID Compute/DataSynapse, Samba, Solace, WebSphere MQ/Broker, WAS, Sendmail etc. The ITO team will also manage internally driven initiatives from group security such as the deployment of HIDS, DAM, Splunk, vulnerability management as well as non security initiatives such as SAN/NAS migrations, inventory management and ADDM reconciliation with CMDB.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
SME role to provide second line BAU Unix/Linux support to the aforementioned business line.
High Severity incident management.
Change coordination and implementation.
Problem Management.
Root Cause Analysis.
Audit, Risk and Control engagement.
Operational Risk Management.
Security management.
Business continuity management.
Transition to service.
Technical reviews & tools assessment.
Performance/stability reviews/improvements.
Service Improvement Plans.
Prioritize work to successfully deliver service in a diverse environment.
Put forward ideas to improve automation and/or efficiency, and own through to implementation.
Drive Delivery/Engineering teams to provide fit-for-purpose solutions as required.
Adhere to Change Control and Fault Reporting Procedures.
Work closely with UNIX/Database/Network/Market Data Infrastructure teams to improve service offering.
Qualifications & Skills
University degree preferred but not essential.
Banking experience preferred but not essential.
Very strong knowledge of Solaris, Redhat Linux, Veritas, AIX.
Very good knowledge of BMC Patrol (or similar enterprise class monitoring product).
Good knowledge of AIX desirable.
Excellent communication, both written and verbally. 
Self starter, able to self manage with strong collaboration skills and able to interact effectively with others.
Strong Shell Scripting skills.
Strong Python or Perl skills.
Good working knowledge of network infrastructure.
Good working knowledge of Storage Infrastructure- SAN and NAS.
Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and deliver.
ITIL Foundation v3/ITIL Service Transition - desirable.
Ability to resolve problems and incidents.
Strong team player.
