Job Summary



To Manage large and complex building construction projects with budgets >£20M for European Distribution.  Manage both internal project delivery teams and and external third parties to ensure successful project delivery.  Act as a mentor to other Project Managers within European Distribution Services, providing a high degree of business and project delivery expertise.  



Key Responsibilities



- Accountable for delivering large or complex projects with budget management responsibility >£20M.

- Lead projects through all phases of delivery from inception through to completion.

- Effectively partner and influence internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve successful delivery,

- Direct and oversee project delivery team(s).

- Lead activities and report on status to ensure that assigned projects are completed on time, within approved budget, and provide desired business value.

- Assign priorities for and coordinate the activities of project stakeholders including relevant third parties.

- Define project quality and success criteria and ensure they are met upon delivery.

- Plan and co-ordinate change management support activities to ensure successful adoption of the initiative upon project delivery.

- Supervise multiple, concurrent work-streams delivered by both internal and external stakeholders and properly assess priorities of assigned activities.

- Ensure delivered initiatives comply with any external Industry and Technical Standards, as relevant.

- Provide support and direction to Global Procurement and Sourcing teams in the securement of contractual agreements with External Third Parties involved in project delivery

- Act as single point of contact for issues escalated by all delivery Stakeholders (including external third parties) associated with execution of projects.

- Responsible for the project delivery plan and work breakdown structure, including identification and management of the critical path, deliverables, goals and milestones.

- Responsible for timely and effective project communication to all delivery stakeholders (both internal and external) including meeting management and reporting.

- Responsible for project financials including baselines, forecasting, reporting, and reconciliation.

- Continually strive to improve project delivery through adoption of Lessons Learned principles.

- Create strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning, identifying and solving issues.

- Performs peer document assessments and be accountable for quality document deliverables.

- Further the adoption of project management standards.

- Accountable for job performance and project delivery of all direct reports (where applicable).

- Coach, mentor and develops direct reports and other Project Managers within the Service Delivery Team.

- Deputise for Manager of Programmes, as required.



Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience



- Operates within a matrix environment in order to assign and monitor tasks for project resources

- Required to travel within any location within Europe in fulfilment of role.

- Previous proven experience of Distribution, Retail or FMCG/Fast Moving business projects is highly desirable.

- Strong organisational, presentation, and business partnering skills 

- Knowledge of project delivery life cycle methodologies and project management techniques

- Ability to multi-task and alter direction easily to accommodate changing priorities

- Experience managing multiple priorities simultaneously

- Experience with PC based project management tools including MS Project

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- 5 years+ proven experience in project or programme management delivering projects with £1M budget value is essential.

- Understanding of Warehouse or Distribution systems, machinery/equipment and processes is highly desirable.

- Formal Project Management Accreditation. PRINCE II and/or PMP Practitioner Certification is essential.

- Proven ability to handle large complex construction projects and/or a portfolio of construction projects

- Ability to assess project health and provide critical analysis to support decisions making by Project Sponsors and Executives to minimise business risk.

- Commercial experience required with proven ability to create Statement of Work and manage contracts.

- Experience of co-ordination and management of third parties including outsource relationships

- Experience of operating at senior stakeholder level

- People leadership skills.

- Team management experience with proven track record of completing projects to the highest standard, on time and within budget.
