Environmental Planner

3-6 months Contract

Based in Nottingham

My client, one of the largest energy companies in the UK, is looking for an Environmental Planner to support a number of a large projects across their CHP Network.

Job Purpose:

  • To provide a range of environmental planning services to a variety of internal and external customers covering all stages of a power generation asset; development, construction, operation, decommissioning and demolition..
  • In particular, environmental planning services focused on identifying planning requirements, discharging planning conditions, managing the environmental impact assessment process, and supporting statutory stakeholder consultations.

Responsible for:

  • Providing environmental planning services through understanding the viability of proposed developments by undertaking detailed feasibility assessments of the environmental and planning issues.
  • Project management of planning applications and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), including, screening and scoping stages, the compilation and submission of environmental statements together with liaison with technical teams to meet the needs of the project and prepare assessments in accordance with best practice.
  • Managing contractors preparing specialist environmental studies.
  • Thorough preparation of planning applications, technical reviews of documents and negotiation of applications through the relevant planning system(s).
  • Preparation of statements to support planning or Development Consent Order applications Liaison with Regulatory Bodies and Statutory Consultees during the pre-application process and during determination of the application.
  • Supporting statutory stakeholder consultations, including stakeholder identification and management
  • Negotiating permit/licence variations & surrenders and resolving issues.
  • Leading negotiations with authorities on behalf of the plant owner in the role of owner's engineer.
  • Co-operating and communicating with other team members on job progress, technical matters and quality, clarifying requirements as necessary.
  • Effectively representing the UTG business, in particular while on customer sites.

Experience:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a technical or science subject
  • Sufficient educational or vocational qualifications to carry out the role safely and effectively.
  • Experience of environmental planning in industry, a consultancy setting, or local authority planning department, with proven ability to manage a portfolio of jobs to cost, quality and time. Track record of working on industrial EIA and local planning applications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
