Communications Networks Engineer (Falcon)
A Communication Networks Engineer is required to work on a six month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Dorset.
This is a 6-month contract with a leading UK Defence Business.
Overview of the Communications Networks Engineer contract role
As the Senior Networks Engineer you will report to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Technical Authority as applicable; you will also be responsible for the management tasking of the Networks team.
The role will involve the candidate working with COTS and MOTS technologies with a significant focus on design, integration and testing of new and existing areas of technology in an IP Based network which delivers data, video, voice and monitoring traffic.
Key skills required for the Communications Networks Engineer
- An excellent understanding of IP Networking techniques, technologies and concepts.
- Experience of Integrating IP Networks with other technologies such as 4G LTE technologies, MANET systems and bearer Radios
- At least five years' experience in an enterprise IP Networking domain
- A working knowledge of the development processes (eg requirements, design, specification, implementation acceptance testing), and development tools (eg Drawing Tools and defect reporting systems)
- An understanding of product safety as pertaining to hardware/systems and an appreciation of the overarching product safety requirements/implications of delivering systems to operational customers
- Willing to travel throughout the UK and abroad as part of the role, and holds a valid driving license.
- Experience of integrating commercial networking equipment and systems including CISCO and Vocality
- Experience with Commercial Firewall systems
- Verifiable and active Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification; other equivalent or better Cisco Professional or Expert track Cisco qualifications acceptable (eg CCDP, CCIE).
- Experience of VOIP and technologies associated
- Be able to design and troubleshoot layer 2/3 & 7 IP Networks, and able to mentor other team members in the art of troubleshooting.
- Experience in using network management protocols, such as SNMP, SSH, SysLog, ICMP, and full packet capture and analysis techniques.
- Virtual Private Networking including IP Security (IPsec), Certification Authority design and implementation.
- Experience with VMware ESXi v5+including vSphere and CLI management, Virtualised Switching, and iSCSI network attached storage, EIGRP, and RIP routing protocols.
- Functional domain knowledge in MPLS, OSPF, EIGRP
Experience in the following areas is desirable:
- MANET/WiMAX/WiGIG technologies
- Knowledge of Defence Standards (Def-Stans)
- Knowledge of the MOOD, DOORS and System Architect tools
- IP Radio technologies
- Satellite Communications integration to IP Networks
The role is based in Christchurch, Dorset - commutable from Salisbury, Fordingbridge, Ringwood, Lymington, Ferndown, Bournemouth and Poole with excellent access from Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester
