Space Product Assurance Engineer

ROLE PURPOSE:
Product Assurance to support the delivery of space hardware programmes in accordance with customer requirements, including Industry Standards, and client internal engineering governance.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Implement and oversee PA & QA control activities relating to space hardware design, procurement, assembly and test, in order to demonstrate products are safe and comply with the applicable customer and internal client requirements.
- Ensure quality activities are operated in compliance with the procedures contained in the Quality Manual and to ensure their effectiveness.
- Deputise for the Senior Space Product Assurance Engineer when required.
- Provide PA support to product lead engineers and project managers in the definition and execution of engineering programmes of work; from bid stage through to delivery.
Including, but not limited to:- Review and authorise documentation, drawings and CofCs;
- Lead Non-Conformance Review Boards (NRBs) managing anomalous or non-conformant occurrences and their resolution;
- Lead hardware readiness reviews (eg manufacturing & test) and subsequent close-out review boards;
- Lead hardware Delivery Review Boards;
- Support product design reviews (typically EQSRs, PDRs, CDRs and QRs);
- NCRs, NRBs, MRRs, TRRs, TRBs
- Conduct Key/Mandatory Inspections Point reviews as defined through the assembly and test phases.
- Support the development and maintenance of a total quality system, such that the Space UK business unit reaches customer audit expectations
- To review and authorise release documentation.
- Active participation in internal and third party audits
- Train and mentor junior team members
CHALLENGES:
- To maintain focus on solution delivery to time, cost and quality, when the programme is under schedule and financial pressure.
- Perform inspections in client and third-party test facilities.
- To ensure that the inspection methods and practices that are implemented are effective.
- To help establish a robust quality operation within the business
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement
CAPABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience or knowledge of a lean manufacturing environment.
- Experience in design, development and verification of products for space flight applications.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree qualified or equivalent in engineering or technical sciences
- Experience in Product Assurance and Quality Assurance, preferably in the space industry.
- Practical experience of space hardware build and test programmes.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and qualification requirements.
- Knowledge of space industry standards (ECSS) is essential.
