Senior DevOps AWS Engineer - London - 6 months - Up to £666 per day (INSIDE IR35)
HMRC Digital Operations is seeking experienced DevOps and infrastructure engineers to support their award winning, multi-active cloud infrastructure Platform as a Service (PaaS). The successful candidates will be joining the Digital Operations area of CDIO, Development, Test & Operations, working on the Multi-channel Digital Tax Platform (MDTP). Candidates must have strong experience working as a DevOps engineer including working in AWS cloud environments. Leading, supervising or line-managing the Dev Ops Team. Operational management of Linux Servers, delivering a complex web application stack. Building and configuring new server platforms and the automated tooling to do so. Testing, debugging and troubleshooting of platform level problems. Supporting development teams with configuring applications for deployment. Have demonstrable experience configuring web and application Servers and possess a fundamental understanding of Linux. Have a strong technical foundation in build, release and environments. Have advanced Programming skills. Building and supporting a large production platform.

Specialist Skills & Requirements
Essential
- Experience of working in a collaborative agile team and environment (Lean, Scrum,
- Kanban), working closely with other disciplines
- Practical knowledge of software best practices such as test-driven development
- (TDD), behaviour-driven development (BDD), pair programming and continuous integration
- Practical experience of writing code to solve problems (Python, Ruby, Bash)
- Advanced practical knowledge and experience in deploying and configuring machines in a AWS Cloud environment and AWS services (Cloudformation, S3, EC2, IAM)
- Practical experience configuring, managing & troubleshooting Servers (Linux)
- Practical experience configuring, managing & troubleshooting databases (preferably Mongo)
- Practical experience with container management
- Practical experience debugging a complex multi-server service
- Understanding of common web application architectures
- Understanding of web security and performance issues
- Familiarity with network protocols - TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, etc
- Ability to mentor or train colleagues
Desirable
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools, eg Splunk, Kibana, Grafana
- Experience with MongoDB
- Experience with configuration management tools like Puppet, Chef
- Experience with Git/GitHub
- Understanding of build and deploy tooling (Jenkins)
- Understanding of application deployment strategies and continuous integration
- Working within a product-centric environment
- Active participation in relevant technology communities (eg Meet-ups)
