Wi-Fi Engineer

Flint is a leader in the wireless industry and is seeking a Wi-Fi Engineer to join the design team to institute design & implementation plans for new works.

Role Description

  • Tenaciously manage the design of wireless and Proxy environments to ensure they will operate at peak performance levels through proactive monitoring/tuning
  • Site Surveys and Wi-Fi planning
  • Design distribution networks connected by fibre to deploy PoE Switches within 100m (the useable length of Ethernet cable) of desired AP locations
  • Complete understanding of Wi-Fi network components & wireless network architectural configurations
  • Experience of designing and deploying outdoor rural and urban Wi-Fi
  • Point-to-Point backhaul
  • Design & deployment of Mounting APs to street furniture (lamp-posts etc)
  • Consult with other technology support groups as part of problem resolution efforts
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and enterprise security configuration standards (includes security vulnerability assessment, mitigation planning and implementation)
  • Create and/or maintain standard documentation, diagrams and workflow documents
  • Southern Africa Travel maybe required to customer sites

Essential

  • Experience of designing, implementing and troubleshooting complex Wi-Fi networks in challenging environments
  • Experience of working with Tier 1 Wi-Fi platforms: eg Cisco

Desirable

  • CCNA
  • CWNA
  • Experience of virtualised environments: eg Hypervisor
  • Experience of Access gateways, IPSec, GRE, L2TPv3, etc;
  • An understanding of the design of Trenches & Underground Chambers for ducting, cabling and fibre installation
  • An appreciation for Street cabinet design.
