Description

System Engineer - Microsoft, VMWare, ESX, Linux, Citrix, AD, SCCM, Powershell, WebSphere, SQL is required by my client who is based in Milton Keynes.

My client requires a System Engineer who will be an active member in a team that is responsible for the designing, implementing, maintaining and optimising of systems and infrastructure in the designated field of technology, in line with architecture guidelines and procedures, in order to realise long term system capacity and possible growth. Example of systems in scope: ESX, Nutanix, Microsoft AD, Citrix.

Key Skills:

  • More than 4 years of relevant experience in the IT engineering profession
  • MCSE Certified and VMWare Certified would be a preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux/Unix systems
  • Very good understanding of large enterprise IT architectures, networks, Firewalls and the complex relationship between them in combination with cloud based services
  • Solid understanding of security principals, encryption and certificates
  • Basic understanding of storage systems and hyperconverged hardware solutions
  • Knowledge of WebSphere, SQL, SCCM, Citrix, (Power)Shell Scripting would be a distinct advantage
  • Experience with technologies like cloud based applications (private and public) and SaaS models
  • Substantial knowledge of appropriate engineering tools/processes
  • Well organised and capable to work in a project driven environment
  • Capable to work under pressure showing a flexible working style with an overall commitment to quality client service
  • Integrity and honesty, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • In-depth knowledge of technical infrastructures. Working knowledge of Databases and other common systems
  • Good knowledge of ITIL processes and Service Level Management
  • Excellent prioritising and problem solving skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a bridge between Architecture Team, the IT business partner(s) and the IT Operations function as Subject Matter Expert
  • Define technical designs for systems and infrastructure elements, in order to ensure an optimal translation of functional needs and technological possibilities into the technical landscape.
  • Execute the incident and problem management process, compliant with agreed service levels, with the purpose to adequately solve technical incidents and problems. Accountabilities involve: manage customer expectations, provide second/third line support in solving problems, execute resolution of all incident and problem enquiries, ensure continuity in service provision and restore required service in case of disruption, report about performance of the execution of the incident and problem management process
  • Execute the change management process, in line with change requirements and specific procedures, in order to fulfil change requests in an efficient and effective manner
  • Schedule the implementation of new and changed elements as well as maintenance and ensure the implementation and configuration of systems and/or infrastructure elements, in order to contribute to an optimal availability of the systems and/or infrastructure
  • Contribute to the formulation of monitoring of and reporting on service levels within the area of attention and initiate and propose improvements, in order to contribute to the optimisation of system performance and capacity
  • Participate in the development of IT related projects initiated by clients or system necessity
  • Engage with third parties and/or service providers to provide seamless customer experience. Accountabilities involve: oversee, command partner performance according to SLA's and agreements, seek continuous improvement in services delivered through partners
  • Understand, own and use IT processes to deliver value-adding IT services. Accountabilities involve: execute IT processes throughout the IT organisation, including activities carried out by third parties
  • Work within multiple IT processes and across all IT services from the total portfolio, across all EU countries and channels
  • Initiate Operational projects and programs, define scope and activities, lead decision taking and manage uncertainties and expectations of a varied group of stakeholders
