My customer in Slovakia is looking for an English speaking Cobol Application Engineer to assist an internationally staffed team of business analysts and application engineers.
The team you will join is responsible for the development, implementation and operation of an economic valuation system and a Solvency II calculation system. The functionality of the application will be continuously extended in the next years. The business functionality is implemented in Cobol using DB2 on z/OS as database. The code is mostly executed in batch jobs which are controlled by the TWS/UC4 and are running on the Mainframe. Besides that, some front ends are implemented in Java/VBA.
Main tasks or activities:
-implementation (Cobol), testing and documentation and deployment
-work on technical concepts and solutions designs in a close cooperation with business analysts
-discussions, iterations and agreements of concepts and designs with business analysts
-taking an active role in the implementation phase in collaboration with internal and external partners
-documentation of the technical solution, the data model and the implementation
-contribution to the respective change management process
-open and active cooperation with other teams to support production processes (monitoring, issue resolution)
Job requirements:
-very good experience as Cobol-programmer
-very good knowledge in SQL/DB2 and DB2 profiling tools
-experience in performance tuning of DB2 based applications
-experience with relational data model and databases
-good knowledge about IBM's Mainframe system environment 2
-knowledge in TWS
-knowledge in UC4 is an advantage
-experience in Object Oriented programming is an advantage
-experience in Visual Basic for application is an advantage
-insurance and financial accounting knowledge is seen as a plus
-independent and responsive in character
-ability to structure and drive things
-capacity to work under pressure
-good command of English, knowledge of German is an advantage
-good level of communication, commitment to work in a decentralized team
Other important information:
In an international team of application engineers and business analysts based in Switzerland and Slovakia you will be involved in all steps of the development of the IT system. You will liaise closely with the business analysts and other teams within Finance IT.
