MATERIALS SCIENTIST - (Technical Lead/Materials Science/Mechanical Engineering)

Materials Scientist required to take part in a large scale transformation - given the size and complexity of this project, resource is required to supplement the existing project team. The successful candidate will assume the role of Project Technical Lead (PTL) having overall responsibility for the technical leadership and quality of the project deliverables. The role will involve a significant amount of time working towards completing the project deliverables as well as leading a small team of scientists and engineers.

Role/Responsibilities

  • Day to day leadership of a major joint industry research project on engineering composite repairs
  • Working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Technical decision making, giving advice to others, including to more junior members of staff
  • Undertaking and leading experimental studies
  • Analysis and interpretation of technical findings and engineering data
  • Occasional travel to industrial sponsors' facilities
  • Writing reports and technical articles
  • Presenting work to industrial and regulatory audiences

Essential

1. Degree in materials science, mechanical engineering or a closely related subject.
2. Good working knowledge of integrity management/pressure systems in major hazard industries. eg offshore oil and gas.
3. Chartered status, or clearly having sufficient experience to obtain this from a relevant professional body.
4. Excellent communication and team working skills.

Preferable
1. Expertise in fibre reinforced plastic materials (composites), in particular, their application to rehabilitate degraded metallic pressurised equipment [engineered composite repairs].
2. Expertise in adhesive bonding and associated test methodologies.
