ORACLE DBA - Cardiff Based

Our UK Government Client is looking for several new additions as they embark on a very large Digital Transformation Programme.

The Database Operational Support Team is looking for an Oracle Database Administrator with the necessary skills to support the current and future elements of various in-house systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a DBA who wants to solve issues and be part of an innovative team.

The role is that of a DBA (Oracle & MongoDb) working in a team of 6 (one of which is the team leader).
The applicant must be a good team worker, who can also work under pressure, to tight schedules, sometimes alone during unsociable hours. All this and be able to deliver desired outcomes. A basic knowledge of UNIX (Solaris & Linux), AWS, and networking principles would be advantageous.

The role will include the following disciplines:
  • Installing Oracle software & create databases (v10,v11,v12)
  • Manage users and security
  • Taking database backups and performing recovery when necessary
  • Perform migrations and/or upgrades of database and software to new release levels.
  • Proactively monitoring the database's health and taking preventive or corrective action as required.
  • Respond to and resolve incidents in line with the agreed SLA targets.
  • Monitoring and tuning performance.
  • Managing Oracle Streams / Goldengate / Dataguard


The team also has responsibilities for the support of MongoDb databases, therefore experience of the following would be desirable, but not necessarily essential:
  • Day to day administration
  • Database software updates and migration.
  • Evolve database architecture as demand grows; vertical scaling, horizontal scaling
  • Database health monitoring.
  • Database profiling for performance and optimization.
  • Capacity management.
  • Work closely with MongoDB Support team as needed to triage issues and design ratification.
  • The team also supports a number of SQL Server databases.
