Description

Role Profile for Oracle APEX Technical Support

Oracle Fusion

Background

The Oracle applications suite has been used in Highways England since 2002. The Oracle Fusion finance project will implement Oracle Fusion to replace Oracle E-business Suite (EBS) version 11.5.10 as the system of financial record and the system used to manage procurement and stock management. The solution will meet the current level of functionality provided by EBS v11.5.10, broadly: financials, procurement, projects and stock management.

The target solution will be delivered through the Government Cloud' shared hosting version of Fusion via the Oracle ERP Cloud and will be accessed, securely, over the Internet. Commodity Fusion functionality delivered as SaaS (Software as a Service), is being adopted as far as possible. With SaaS, clients, in this case web browsers; provide the point of access to software running on Servers in the cloud. Oracle provides the DBA function as well as provisioning and maintaining the hardware.

Four platform as a service (PaaS) extensions are also being implemented as part of the ERP delivery. These PaaS extensions are hosted in the UK public cloud and are designed to work seamlessly with SaaS. With this PaaS model Oracle provide the hardware, data center and development tools essentially, a platform on which software applications can be developed and deployed. The PaaS software developed by Oracle as part of the Fusion ERP project has been handed over to Highways England to operate, including responsibility for the development and maintenance of the code and for database administration when the service is in operation. Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX) is the primary tool available for Highways England to continue to develop the existing extensions or new web applications with SQL and PL/SQL as required meeting changing business needs.

The currently Fusion go live is scheduled for April 2018. The solution will be supported by a dedicated internal team the SfM team. The PaaS extensions will be supported by two PaaS Administrators on a full time basis.
