Description
Software Systems and delivery Engineer required to join a team supporting a major digital broadcast company. You will be dedicated to and responsible for, the delivery and support of large complex cutting edge projects This encompasses the entire project life cycle from analysing the customer requirements, integrating and testing new software components, delivery and installation into customer environments and handover of the system for on going support. The role involves close collaboration with the R&D teams both in Headend and STB development, within customer and client environments.
Projects range from maintenance releases for components deployed to On Demand platforms, up to large multi-year projects providing new functionality.
Technical Skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong and proven technical leadership in the delivery of bespoke applications to a large customers
- Strong Linux and Linux Systems Administration experience
- Experience in deployment and configuration of software applications on both Linux and Windows operating systems
- Knowledge of the Cisco Headend systems preferably in a support or integration role
- Experience in setup and configuration of relational databases (Oracle preferred)
- Experience with Oracle RAC or Data Guard desirable
- SQL Bash Python or Perl Scripting skills
- Basic Java preferred
- Awareness of NoSQL databases
- Knowledge of MPEG/DVB and associated systems would be advantageous
- Past exposure to Conditional Access and DRM systems is desirable
- Knowledge of test management software is desirable QA (Quality Centre in particular)
- Good knowledge of networking and TCP/IP
- Good understanding of network transfer protocols HTTP, FTP
- Ability to understand complex data represented in XML or JSON
- Ability to write and understand complex XSLT to transform XML is advantageous
- Awareness of version control systems desirable (Git preferred)
- Previous experience of deployment of virtual machines using VMware (vSphere and vCenter)
- Knowledge of automated deployment using Ansible
- Understanding of Containers (eg Docker) and Orchestration (eg Openshift)
