Description

IGlobal satellite network, offering mobile and fixed communications services for maritime, enterprise, government & aviation seek a UT Systems Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting terminal manufacturers with air segment studies surrounding
  • Improved banking and low elevation performance
  • Advanced antenna designs and use of multiple antennas
  • Fast air interface radio recovery
  • Waveform improvements
  • Support the identification, down selection and requirements for key air segment technology predevelopments derived from the study work.
  • Lead on Inmarsat air segment requirements, design and roadmap for future ATN requirements and satellite concepts
  • Support the design of future test tools and means required for supporting; air segment predevelopment activities, future air segment SDM requirements and supporting I&T activities within the Inmarsat Iris Test facility
  • Act as the technical contact point between specific aeronautical equipment manufacturers and other individuals and groups within Inmarsat and the Iris consortium members.
  • Lead the Inmarsat peer review process of air segment Iris subcontractor deliverables
  • Lead for managing the air segment work packages within the Iris FOC program
  • Support the Inmarsat contribution towards SATCOM Class A standardisation activities within WG-82, SC-222

Carry out engineering analysis in support of the Iris FOC developments, including analysis of end to end performance, identifying and resolving system anomalies.

Develop expertise in physical layer design protocol layers of the BGAN system design in order to:

  • Participate and support the Systems Architecture & Design team in CTO for potential future enhancements identified within Iris to the Swift Broadband System Definition Manual (SDM), including the preparation of written responses to formal queries submitted by the RAN and UE manufacturers.
  • Support the aero safety development team and manage the necessary changes to the test tools and type approval process.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Degree in Telecommunications or Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of modulation (O-QPSK, QAM)
  • Good knowledge of hardware development including RF design.
  • Good knowledge of mobile satellite signal propagation models in aeronautical environments
  • Knowledge of aeronautical communication systems performance and environmental requirements
  • Good knowledge in mobile communication (UMTS 3GPP, LTE).
  • Data communications protocols (TCP/IP, IPSec, PPP, ATN, OSI).
  • Network Security and supporting RFCs (PKI, IKEv2)
  • Good knowledge of software development and engineering techniques
  • Good knowledge and experience of software programming and use of simulation tools (eg MatLab) for system development and analysis.
  • Good knowledge of RF measurements and testing methods.
  • Network protocol analyser tools (eg wireshark).
  • Good knowledge of satellite communications systems.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of link budget, receiver and fading simulations
  • Working knowledge of aeronautical antenna systems
  • Inmarsat and other satellite communications systems.
  • Knowledge of network engineering
  • Knowledge in Avionics certification process
  • Knowledge of Aviation Standards and regulatory requirements (ARINC , DO-178, DO-262)Knowledge of aviation safety performance requirements
  • Knowledge of DSP implementation and architecture.
