Job role: Principal Data Engineer/Solution Architect - Big Data/Data Lake
Start date: ASAP
Hours pw: 40 hours per week
Location: Geel area, Belgium/remote (it is required to work 2-3 days pw onsite per October)
Duration: long term project, initial contract till 30th November followed by 6 month extension cycles
Our client in the area of Geel in Belgium is making strong investments in driving forth innovations and disrupting the digital space they are active in. In order to do so a new opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional to step in and shape the datalake.
In this role you will work with stakeholders from various levels to drive forward the datalake migration plan and Big Data approach as well as tooling. You will take this project from dream to reality.
To succeed in this role you will work closely together with the technical architects and engineers to understand the requirements, support script design, test-cases and tooling. You have a solution-oriented mindset and can make quick decisions based on experience, which when challenged you can explain in easy terms why you did or didn't chose a certain tech or solution. You are someone who backs their own ability to deliver a strong and pragmatic quality plan, leveraging automation in data pipelines and verification scripts. You have a robust yet diplomatic approach to risk management and can work with the other architects to ensure all pieces fit together.
Our client is going from a Legacy MS SQL stack to Cloud in combination with Snowflake, PySpark and Jenkins. Experience of conceptual and logical data analysis and SQL are a must have as well as the ability to use modelling frameworks such as Sparx or Erwin and automated data pipeline ingest. You are a team player and a good communicator who can filter out noise and separate the nice to haves from the must haves, identifying important tasks and deliverables.
For applicants outside of Belgium: we appreciate and welcome your application, but relocation to Belgium for the duration of the project is required as per October 2-3 days per week onsite is a must. The site is only available by car.
