Commercial Finance Manager - Retail/Food - 6 months

The location of the role is London (hybrid remote working).

The pay rate on offer is £450 - £500 per day.

The client is a large, multinational high-street retailer.

Key skills and experience

  • Commercial Business Partnering in a Retail, FMCG or Manufacturing environment is highly desirable
  • Qualified Accountant - CIMA/ACCA/ACA/CA, with at least 2 years PQE
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Process and system understanding
  • Business Appraisal and Analysis
  • Governance and Controls experience
  • Management Accounts
  • Advanced Excel
  • Experience/understanding of sales to gross profit is essential
  • Strong Commercial acumen and business partnering experience
  • Ability to communicate with impact to senior management, business stakeholders and wider Finance teams
  • Good Commercial understanding of the business & market
  • Quick learner, enthusiastic and solution driven

Key accountabilities and measures

Supporting the delivery of the business' revenue and operating profit targets through business partnering:

  • Work with the Commercial teams to build and review Budgets, Forecasts and understand short term and longer terms performance trends against the budget and forecast through weekly trade reviews, monthly performance analysis and Quarterly Cluster reviews. Supporting the delivery of our forecast through identification and analysis of R&O's
  • Work with the Commercial teams to build up detailed Commercial plans around usage of space, price and promotional activity and track the performance of this plan
  • SKU and channel profitability analysis in the category and work alongside the other Finance Business Partners to maximize the performance of our product portfolio.
  • Work with the Commercial teams to evaluate and track the performance of all NPD
  • Working with the Commercial teams to identify cost out opportunities in our products and supporting the delivery of these projects through rigorous financial analysis and governance
  • Support the governance of pricing decisions through identification of pricing opportunities, analysing these choices and tracking the performance of changes that we make.
  • Support the development and management of JBP's within the cluster
  • Own the development, reporting and governance of our supplier performance process within the cluster. Provide analysis to review key supplier performance and working alongside the Commercial team, identify areas of risk and opportunity in these plans. This includes the tracking and optimization of supplier income and growth incentives.
  • Support in the assessment, delivery and management of strategic initiatives

Supporting the delivery our revenue and operating profit targets through Commercial insights and analysis and support of broader Finance:

  • Support the analysis and tracking of weekly and monthly Commercial performance through the delivery of Commercial analysis and insights to the Head of Finance and the broader Commercial Finance team
  • Support FP&A in the delivery of Month end and Quarter end reporting through the provision of Commercial insights
  • Work with the BSC (Shared Service Centre) to continue to optimise our reporting capability and processes
  • Work with other parts of Finance to develop our reporting and understanding of performance below Gross Profit, including how we integrate these into our Forecast
  • Support the delivery of significant improvements in Finance capability by participating in programmes and initiatives to build capability across the team
