Job Title: Senior Developer - Interim/ContractorLocation: Home Based - hybrid model - 2 days a week travel to Bristol/London/Manchester
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Day Rate: £550 per day umbrella (Inside IR35)
Contract Length: 6 months
Deliverables:
- build RESTful web services to serve a variety of citizen and government needs, taking responsibility for the quality of code you produce
- implement toolkits and APIs for purposes such as integration, performance optimisation, security and scalability
- build automated tests to support our continuous deployment environment
- share knowledge of tools and techniques with your wider team, both developers and non-developers
- act as a digital ambassador across government, supporting recruitment, identifying good practices to adopt and sharing experiences, eg through blog posts, tech talks at conferences etc
- support the live operation of the services we run, and participate in out-of-hours support rotas where necessary - you'll be paid an allowance, and a further hourly payment, for any duties you perform when on call
- be involved in helping recruit developers and where appropriate, helping sift and interview
- provide technical leadership within team, advising and working with developers to identify the best solutions
- have and apply broad knowledge of web technologies
- take responsibility for solving complex issues
- experience in Back End development with detailed knowledge of either Node.js and/or Ruby
- GDS (Government Digital Service) experience desirable but not essential
- understand software design principles
- can confidently and independently research and learn new programming tools and techniques
- take a systematic approach to solving problems
- experience of using automated testing and test driven development to validate solutions
- understand agile environments and version control
- good understanding of web and software security
- awareness of web accessibility
- awareness of technologies used for web applications, eg databases, backups, CDNs and search, and of Unix-like operating systems, eg Linux and/or Mac OS
- experience working on, or with web technologies
- familiar with working practices such as TDD, continuous integration, continuous delivery and DevOps
Currently working remotely but will be looking to return to the office 2 days a week as part of hybrid working.
