Description

Job Purpose

  • Co-ordinate the development of information management countermeasures and contingency plans.
  • Provide advice, guidance and support on all areas of Information Assurance to ensure compliance with Data & Information Management elements of IMS and information management industry good practice.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
  • The Information Governance & Assurance Officer will be responsible for supporting the development of an overarching information management strategy for, including policies, standards, models, governance, and assurance to ensure understands and manages its information throughout the programme.
  • The individual will be required to build relationships with Information Asset Owners (IAOs), manage information risk tools & process and support the management and investigation of breaches. 

Accountabilities

  • Manage the Information Asset Register and data handling processes to ensure compliance with the HMG Security Policy Framework (SPF), the General Data Protection Regulations and other agreed information standards.
  • Assure that risk assessments of information assets are completed by IAOs and respond to audit findings ensuring that the risks and mitigating actions identified are owned and managed by the appropriate teams.
  • Support the development, and manage the completion of the annual returns on regulatory compliance activitixes with key staff, including the IAOs and ensure timely returns.
  • Coordinate, develop and facilitate agenda items for the Information Governance Group and track actions from this forum through to completion.

  • Data visualisation. You know how to use the most appropriate medium to visualise data to tell compelling and actionable stories relevant for business goals. You can present, communicate and disseminate data appropriately and with high impact. (Relevant skill level: working)
  • Logical and creative thinking skills. You know how to respond to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur. You can initiate actions, monitor services and identify trends to resolve problems. You know how to determine the appropriate Remedy and can help to implement it as well as preventative measures.   • Project management skills. You know how to apply your knowledge and experience of project management methodologies, including tools and techniques. You know how to adopt those most appropriate for the environment. (Relevant skill level: working)

  • Quality assurance, validation and data linkage abilities. You can recognise and identify appropriate ways to collect, collate and prepare data. Knowledge:

  • Understanding of Information and cyber security risk management
  • Knowledge of Master Data Management principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts, Environmental Information Regulations and other legal aspects of managing information.
  • Knowledge of the Government Digital Services (GDS), Technology Code of Practice, Digital Service Standard and Digital Service Manual

Type of experience:

A first degree or academic or work experience that demonstrates an equivalent level of academic ability.

Proven track record in Information Governance & Assurance.

Working collaboratively within a Matrix organisation and providing information management advice and guidance.
