Principal Systems Engineer - Outside IR35 - Remote Working

As Systems Engineer, you will have the opportunity to take part in laying the foundations of future airborne defence communications.

This project is at an early stage in its life cycle, so requires someone who is comfortable to start defining a system from the very first principles and understands the full engineering life cycle.

A Model Based Systems Engineering Approach is being used and Cameo is the tool that is being used to capture this, interfacing to Doors where the requirements are being stored.

The project uses an Agile methodology with each Sprint focusing on a specific ICS capability.

This role will provide unique exposure to a variety of communications products and subject-matter experts, as well as the ability to interact directly with the user community to understand their operational needs and directly apply this knowledge to product capability enhancements.

Tasks:

Definition and development of the CONEMP and CONOPS for the Communication System as well providing support to the overall system Operational Analysis.

  • Definition and development of complex performance models to support the Communication System Operational Analysis.
  • Identification of cutting edge and future technologies and the definition of Airborne Communication Systems roadmaps.
  • Provide Comms System architectural technical expertise in design reviews and other Forums.
  • Interfacing with the customer and other stakeholders regarding the Comms System architecture.
  • Interfacing with the internal customers for the airborne Comms System.
  • Interfacing with other line of business to ensure that the Airborne Communication System is integrated to meet the overall needs of the TEMPEST programme.
  • Offer support and assistance into all areas of the Future Combat Aircraft Communication programme, as required.

Skills:

  • A good level of Systems Engineering practitioner capability across the entire life cycle, particularly early stage concept thinking. Strong understanding of model based design.
  • Ability to define and develop requirements in an uncertain domain.
  • Ability to research and evaluate potential methods of implementation and create reports to capture the benefits and drawbacks of each option and to create technical documentation of system solution.
  • Communication system analysis/modelling/simulation tools.
  • Development of military and/or commercial communication systems.
  • Communication systems implementation, including knowledge of wave-forms, architectures, and protocols.
  • Development of a communication product through design, integration, verification, validation and certification
  • The engineering life cycle from Cradle to grave
