Description

Credit Analysis

  • The major responsibilities of a Credit Analyst ("CA") are to objectively diagnose and evaluate the Counterparty and Credit Risks of an assigned portfolio as well as monitoring the Bank's exposure.
  • They prepare the Annual Reviews and New Requests (including prospects) for Pilots and Contributors files that belong to his/her assigned portfolio by writing up exhaustive but synthetic Credit Proposals based on a selective commercial and risk approach. It includes:
  • The annual re-treatment of the Counterparty's financial statements (individual & consolidated) into CRF.
  • The analysis of the facilities/global exposure on a Counterparty/Group, including documentation analysis (security package, covenants, general undertakings, events of default etc) in order to highlight transactional risks and assess the appropriate level of risk/return per facility/group.
  • The analysis of the Business (country of business/environment/sector/leading position/peer analysis/management & strategy) and the Financial Risk Profiles (liquidity/solvency/re-payment capacity/funding sources) of the clients.
  • The determination of a Counterparty (Internal) Rating and Global Recovery Rate ("GRR"), following the rules defined by GRM/CMS and using Group Tools and benchmarks.
  • The commercial relationship development: Strategy/business opportunities/profitability of deals and/or relationship using the appropriate group risk return & rating tools to make sure it is in line with the Bank's strategy.
  • The conclusion and recommendation based on a well-argued opinion to convince decision-makers that the deal is acceptable to the Bank.
    • On a regular basis, they develop and monitor early warning signals including covenant monitoring and also any changes that can impact on credit quality, market, strategy and financing opportunities.
    • They also present files in local credit committee when required.

Credit Process

  • The CA is responsible for selecting the right credit process flow depending on the level of decision (Local, Pilot, Region or HO) and the type of Coverage (IBE/CBE).
  • S/He organises the presentation of the files well ahead of Credit Committees, jointly with the RM, alerting management on all hot topics regarding credit issues.
  • The CA is responsible for the integrity of the Bank's data bases.
  • S/He completes the local pipeline on a daily basis to allow for the credit proposal workflow to be monitored and alerting management on the bottlenecks that are slowing the process.
  • The CA should participate in the continuous improvement of the credit process efficiency by proposing solutions or areas for improvement when necessary.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • The Credit Analyst reports directly to the Head of Credit Analysts.
  • Yearly appraisal from Deputy and Head of Credit Analysts based on performance against set objectives.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Applicants must have experience in credit analysis from Commercial, Corporate or Investment Banking
  • Strong understanding of the UK Banking market and related legal loan documentation advantageous
  • Strong presentation skills (both written & Oral)
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written), additional language skills advantageous
  • Negotiation/persuasion skills
  • Diligence/attention to detail
  • Commercial, industry and market awareness
  • Initiative/persistence
  • Team working ability
  • Self-reliance, ability to operate autonomously, when required
  • Ability to understand the Bank and its processes
  • Ability to network within the Bank
  • Educated to Degree standard
  • Formal Credit qualifications would be advantageous

Core Competencies

  • Good technical credit analysis skills (including cashflow and secured lending, forecasting and modelling)
  • Knowledge of banking products from a credit risk perspective, including
  • Vanilla commercial and corporate banking products (Overdrafts, Syndicated lending, cash management, guarantees and performance bond lines, committed facilities)
  • Global markets deals (varying from straightforward to complex structures, including currency, commodities products and other derivatives)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, rigour and method
    • Ability to react rapidly and in a proactive manner
    • Eagerness to improve his/her own performance
    • Team spirit
