Product Control, Credit, VBA, London, 6 months

Bank of America Merrill Lynch is looking to appoint a Product Controller to work in their EMEA Credit team on a contract basis.

We are currently seeking committed and numerically minded Product Controller with a keen interest in key accounting principles and a desire to progress within the finance and investment banking field

With the complex nature of the product set this role offers an opportunity to grow the candidate's knowledge in this area with platform to drive and deliver change from both a process and a technology perspective. This sets the role apart from vanilla flow trading and there is a learning opportunity here to get to grips with the finer detail of structured and complex trades, multiple strategies and an array of products within the FICC world.

There is a high demand for quality information and interaction with the desk on a daily basis. The traders are highly technical and in contact with P&L controllers throughout the day, making this a fluid and vibrant space to operate in.

The successful candidate will be able to engage the desk, view risk and P&L laterally across the trading portfolio and have an appreciation and knack for attention to detail. In terms of career progression this role provides a rewarding platform for learning and development as well as interaction with the Front Office and various Business Support Partners including cross line of business exposure.

As a Product Controller, your main responsibilities will involve:

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of daily P&L reports
  • Reconciliation of various data sources to the ledger (includes posting adjustments to Subledger)
  • Analytical review of P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Risk based P&L explain and commentary
  • Interaction with the Front Office regarding daily P&L and trader queries
  • Process Improvement Initiatives
  • Communication of issues to senior management
  • Volcker Data Reconciliation

Monthly responsibilities include:

  • Reconciliation between the sub-ledger and general ledger
  • Month-end postings to the general ledger
  • Project work is expected
  • Process enhancement initiatives and system testing
  • MIS and controls reporting

The position requires extensive interaction with the trading desk and support partners in Operations and Technology

Skills & Experience:

  • Good education background
  • Understanding of the market and market drivers of the product(s) you are supporting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Fixed Income derivative products and/or Rates products
  • Effective communication with various business partners (Trading, Operations, Technology)
  • Prior experience in similar field
  • Highly skilled in excel and VBA
  • Interest in key accounting principles and concepts
