Principal Engineer - Vehicle Control - Ship Building

A Principal Engineer with Vehicle Control experience is required to work on a twelve-month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our defence client based in Cumbria.

This is a 12-month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Principal Engineer - Vehicle Control role

Provide a central Point of Contact to facilitate and drive inter- and intra-team working across all teams delivering Vehicle Control.

These include:

  • Naval Architecture
  • Active Vehicle Control
  • Safety
  • Hydraulics
  • Pressurised Air & Gas
  • Propulsion, Steering & Hull Mechanics
  • Structures
  • Co-ordinate activities across the Vehicle Control teams to ensure clarity of:
  • Inter-relationships
  • Inputs & Assumptions
  • Outputs
  • Models
  • Deliverables
  • Co-ordinate Vehicle Control deliverables that cross team boundaries, including Vehicle Control Principles of Operation

Key skills required for the Principal Engineer - Vehicle Control

  • Honours Degree or equivalent experience in the Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of the techniques of Systems Engineering
  • Sufficient knowledge of the range of disciplines involved in the product design to be able to identify the best design compromises
  • The ability to analyse complex problems and identify the most critical issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to appreciate, think and work across discipline and functional boundaries.
  • Experience in the management of business and technical interfaces

The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District.
