Mining Digital Solutions for Solutions in Digital Mining

Cognitive Analogy Transfer of Non-mining Digital Solutions
thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG – Mining Technologies uses a Think Tank to identify and explore future fields of innovation. Results are regularly reflected in our business strategy and in our innovation radar. Think Tank 3 will focus on generating digitalization ideas for the mining business in a fast lane approach, combining and utilizing the three driving factors of creativity (experience, expertise, and fantasy) in an ideal way. Think Tank will support and enforce to apply cognitive analogies to transfer the learnings from diverse industries to the mining business, creating new opportunities for further development of digital solutions. In Jun-Aug, 2019 we will start-up and run this year’s Think Tank.

Applications are invited from experts and researchers in engineering with experience in a variety of industries. To participate in a fixed-term interdisciplinary research initiative designed to explore future opportunities, a general understanding of and previous disposition to digital solutions ideally forms part of your experience.

The Fellowship is funded by thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG, but is externally based in a downtown co-working space environment in the City of Amsterdam/ The Netherlands, selected to foster creativity. The participants will work collaboratively as part of a small interdisciplinary team including selected employees of thyssenkrupp – one of Germany’s biggest engineering companies – to generate innovative conceptual and/or practical proposals and think-pieces geared to the industries’ ongoing development.

Creative “blue sky” thinking is encouraged, and critical perspectives that might lead to alternative business strategies as well as innovative ways of addressing broader (socio-) technical, environmental and economic challenges are welcomed. In addition to offering flexibility with regard to research design, execution and outputs, the position provides a chance to influence thinking and practice within one of Europe’s key industrial players.

Candidates may have either regionally focused and/or international expertise and research experience, ideally with predisposition to digital technologies. The ability to speak and write fluently in English is essential. Residency in Amsterdam for the duration of the contract will be provided. A daily allowance is provided in addition to the stipend.
We value diversity and therefore welcome all applications, irrespective of gender, nationality, ethnic and social background, religion and beliefs, disability, age, or sexual orientation and identity.

BU MIN Think Tank program is offered on a freelancer basis only.
