AWS DevOps Engineer/Contract/Stratford/£600-£750 per day/Outside IR35

My client, a leading digital transformation partner for the UK Government, is currently recruiting for a number of AWS DevOps Engineers to join their growing Cloud function on a permanent basis in London.

You will be joining a leading team of cloud engineers, architects, technologists and thought leaders placing you at the forefront of cloud technology adoption in the UK; assisting in a range of projects from data centre migrations to the provision of new cloud native digital services to exploring emerging technologies such as Distributed Ledger, Serverless Application Development and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning to name a few!

This is a fast-paced role, and well suited for someone looking to get their hands involved in all aspects of cloud provisioning, orchestration and configuration management.

The successful AWS DevOps Engineer will:

  • Apply modern development standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines, security standards, usability design standards, as appropriate
  • Proactively evolve and apply DevOps methodologies, standards and leading practices
  • Ensure re-use through consumption and expansion of shared platform and community technology assets
  • Run the engineering community of practise/centre of excellence internally as well as engagement with the wider external communities
  • Using strategic thinking, consider the art of the possible, compare various options based on feasibility and impact, propose actionable plans and roadmaps that balance tactical and strategic needs
  • Maintain exceptional knowledge of cloud and emerging technology industry and trends
  • Advise partners, Methods pre/sales & technical teams on best practice for customer facing solutions. This can be both a proactive activity where you build a plan with the partner to pursue a specific technical scenario or it can be a reactive response to a customer need or request for proposal

Desired skills and Experience:

  • Comfortable working on agile-based teams comprised of team members with diverse skill-sets (eg Quality Assurance Engineers, User Experience Designers and User Researchers, Software Engineers/Architects etc)
  • Demonstrates growth mindset, enthusiastic about learning new technologies quickly and applying the gained knowledge to address business problems
  • Consistently demonstrates follow-through in honouring commitments to customers and colleagues. Accepts the challenge of unfamiliar tasks
  • Engage with stakeholders and project teams to understand requirements, deliverables, and set expectations on tasks that you will be responsible for whilst translating these into technical deliverables
  • Deep dive into complex engineering, performance, security and scalability issues to increase efficiency and reduce customer incidents
  • Knowledge of DevOps for AWS cloud infrastructure (essential), DevOps concepts, methods and tooling, agile delivery methods, collaboration tooling, operational service acceptance requirements
  • Experience of configuration management and Infrastructure as Code tooling, practises and processes (eg Chef, CloudFormation, Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, SALT) leveraging CI/CD tooling and processes (eg Jenkins, CircleCI, Cope Pipeline)
  • Experience with automated testing, test-driven development, behaviour-driven development etc
  • Experience working with the one or more following languages: Node.js, Python, Ruby, Perl, Java, Scala, Go, Bash, PowerShell
  • Experience in enterprise public cloud implementations preferably in public sector or in highly regulated environments (financial services, insurance, E-commerce etc) focusing on AWS
  • Optimization of applications to scalable cloud designs, rearchitecting applications to modern cloud patterns, and database migration (including cross-platform)
  • Experience in a hands-on engineering role(s) designing and implementing distributed, containerised and server-less hyperscale systems in AWS

Essential skills:

  • At least 2 years experience with AWS
  • Public sector experience, ideally from within large scale Government Digital Transformation programmes
  • At least 2 years experience of Chef
  • Consultancy experience
  • At least 2 years experience of CloudFormation
  • Must be eligible for SC clearance or ideally already hold valid SC clearance
