Description

District Heating (DH) UK - Bid Manager (BM)
The BM will own and manage the DH bid creation from start to the point of submission. The BM will manage, collate and coordinate all aspects of the bid to cover, but not limited to; presentation, engineering/technical information, reference case studies, pricing, cost saving and added value innovative ideas. Checking and fine turning the bids to ensure the tone and the level of information is honed appropriately to type of client and to meet their tender requirements. This involves establishing a bid plan to achieve timely compilation of data, managing internal stakeholder expectation, approvals and successful submission before tender deadline.

BM should have a good understanding of the UK DH market, the current legislation, UK Gov incentives and types of customers and their business philosophy. BM should understand the difference between private and open tender procurement. Working with business developers, it is expected that BM will play a key role in customer meetings in identifying customer DH requirements and in presenting Uniper's DH capabilities. This will include working with Uniper's partners.

The BM needs to be competent and experience in technical engineering, stakeholder management and project management. Must be proactive, comfortable working with minimal supervision and have experience in an equivalent role in DH engineering, design/commercialisation, installation and operation and maintenance. This includes ensuring the upskilling and knowledge growth of this competence area for Uniper.

Given the engineering experience that is required by the role, you will expected to (with support from relevant engineering and proposal management departments) review design, present and clearly articulate technical specifications/solutions within tenders, produce commercial models and reports for presentation to customers.

Essential to the role is the appraisal and interpretation of customer requirements to ensure that all technical, commercial and legislative parameters of tenders/project are understood and captured.

It is expected that the BM will support the client to develop into a leading expert within the market with regards to: heat network engineering, design, installation and performance analysis of networks; and the cost and effectiveness of implementing different types of physical interventions to heating systems and component equipment (eg HIUs).

Responsibilities
Full responsibility for bid creation, accuracy and timely submission.
Preparation of all aspects of tender submissions and bid plans.
Support the development of a DH services business in the UK.
Support the technical capabilities in DH in the UK at Uniper.
Guiding and coordinating engineers to support DH project bids.
Commercial and technical lead on project bids and in discussions with customers and partners.
Identify cost-effective and innovative solutions, in accordance with customer requirements.
Reporting to the DH project manager on a regular basis.
Identifying risks and mitigations, to enable Uniper to develop a DH services business.
Support the development of new tools and systems and ad hoc projects.
Identify opportunities for the sale of services, including the development of new products, where appropriate.
Ability to work with the design engineer to deliver heat network sizing calculations, including analysis of heat loads.

Key requirements
Essential
Track record in tender bid submissions. Demonstration of wins.
Engineering Degree: Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Building Services.
Working knowledge of CIBSE and RIBA guidance on heat network and project development
Problem solving and has can do attitude.
Commercially astute, cost aware and have demonstrable business acumen.
Minimum 5years design experience (10 years preferred) within engineering (mechanical, chemical or building services) with at least 4 years in heat networks.
Practical and delivery experience in district heating projects in engineering, design and installation.
Knowledge of District Heating network design and operations.
Knowledge of CHP and Energy Centre design and operations.
Success in solving complex problems in a structured and professional way.

APMP Project Management Qualification
Chartered Engineer
Contract management
Experience of working with Heat Network ESCO companies
Awareness of Construction Design and Management Regulations,
Engineering project management experience and exposure to budget control.
Asset performance management: has experience at monitoring, assessing and improving operational assets
