This will initially be a 6-month contract, highly likely to extend, inside IR35 and paying £550/day. Previous Government experience is a HUGE bonus.
I've partnered with a Government organisation looking to bring a heavily skilled Ruby developer on board as they undergo a digital transformation. You'll be working within a cross-functional, agile team environment with a TDD approach. You'll be working for a government department that works with some of the most vulnerable people within society, meaning that the work they do has the potential to affect real change for thousands of people. With the increasing workload and demands that this department encounter, your work will be crucial in streamlining the transformation and updating their systems.
You'll also be required to communicate complex technical subjects to a nontechnical audience when required. This means you'll need to be an effective communicator, both written and spoken.
Required skills and experience:
- Expert in Ruby/Ruby on Rails
- Strong experience in SQL/PostgreSQL
- Strong experience in AWS
- Experience in JavaScript, HTML, CSS
- TDD approach to development
- Git/Github
Desirable skills and experience:
- Awareness of NoSQL (eg. DynamoB, MongoBD)
- Familiarity with event-based Models
- Experience building, documenting, and testing JSON APIs
- Awareness of Kubernetes
- Knowledge of Travis CI & Jira
Helpful tools/methodologies:
- Agile methodologies - Scrum, Kanban, Lean UX, XP
- Agile Tooling - Jira, Confluence, Slack
- Automated Testing tooling and methodologies
