User Experience (UX) Designer

Our public sector client has a 3 - 12 month contract available for an experienced User Experience (UX) Designer.

This role is based in Liverpool, the client is investing in their digital infrastructure and are rapidly expanding their digital capabilities. You will be part of their digital transformation project assisting the team to create user-focused accessible services with a consistent user experience.

You will ensure users experience a seamless end to end journey and can interact effectively within that journey to achieve their aims.
You will be working closely with projects, business teams, developers and solution specialists and will thrive working openly, collaboratively and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Core purpose of the role
Ensure service users experience a cohesive and consistent experience as part of a managed end to end journey, and identify the best ways for users to interact with services ( in terms of the overall flow and the individual design elements).
Translate user needs into practical business and technical designs and develop wire frames and prototypes which can be tested and iterated, working in an evidence driven way, championing good design and the voice of the user and helping shape the focus of future research.
Collaborate with business improvement, customer insight, technology, and operations teams to ensure new services are Embedded with an iterative continual improvement approach.
Act as an ambassador for UX, embedding good practice, and GDS aligned ways of working.
Build resources for the UX team, creating, using and reusing design patterns that encourage digital adoption and service user engagement and satisfaction.
Ensure your designs are accessible and align to WCAG 2.1 standards to at least AA level.

Essential Skills:

You must have:
A solid understanding of service design, interaction design and usability disciplines.
Evidence of translating insights into actionable recommendations and design and experience in balancing user needs with the needs of the business.
An understanding of GDS methodology and ways of working.
A broad understanding of technology landscape, including new and emerging technologies that will influence UX design.
Strong experience of service and interaction design in complex transaction services, with a particular emphasis on building reusable elements and components.
Excellent collaboration and influencing skills and a positive, resilient approach.
Great story-telling skills, able to convey ideas and designs through a range of approaches
A good knowledge of designing for users with accessibility and other needs.
Good knowledge of GDPR and how to protect the privacy and data our users share with us.

Desirable: (non-essential)
Experience of supporting services through GDS assessments
Skills with a range of prototyping tools and technologies
Past experience of web development or content design
Experience driving UX change, gaining buy in and commitment to new ways of working.
Experience defining and documenting ways of working and team policies and then putting these into practice.
Previous experience of user research studies, and an understanding of the pros/cons and value of different research approaches and methods.
