L3 Data Centre Linux System Administrator
Main responsibilities are:- Achieve project related deliverables within agreed and communicated timelines;
- Installation/de-installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of systems and software;
- Work with service delivery teams to ensure the delivery into production of new or upgraded Linux server/service changes are carried out according to agreed quality processes and schedules.
- Provide technical design and architecture proposals to improve the existing Linux Server infrastructure services, thereby improving efficiency, effectiveness and minimizing costs. Configure network interfaces, routing and local Firewall policies
- Configure system applications and protocols such as SSH and DNS
Installation of system libraries, web server applications and other packages as needed by projects
- Setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of network-mounted file systems Manage capacity, availability and system level performance
- Backup & Disaster recovery management/capability
- Support in managing and deployment of new tools to improve ways of working and overall efficiency;
- Implementation of necessary Change Requests;
- Support the design and build of new systems
- Produce documentation and use any appropriate means to ensure effective communications of systems, processes and procedures to both internal and external parties;
- Comply to standards of physical security, capacity planning and other related industry standards
- Record and maintain accurate incident and change records and logs;
- Proactively detect and report to management any operational threats;
- Ensure the operational availability of the systems and infrastructure;
- Problem and Compliance management:
- Provide root cause analysis on major incidents and follow up on corrective measures;
- Discover and address systematic problems in the infrastructure design;
- Liaise with the vendors for major incident and problem management;
- Regular updates to management, status reporting, risk management, escalation management;
- Update capacity planners about progress and get their input to review timeline for completion of capacity upgrades and Completion of internal project documentation.
- Bachelor degree in information technology or Computer/Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience;
- 5+ years of experience with system administration, preferably in a large Telco/Cable Operator Data Centre environment
- 5+ years proficiency administering Unix & Linux Operating systems (RHEL 5/6/7, OEL 5/6/7);
- 5+ years proficiency with installing operating Systems RHEL Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux;
- 2+ years proficiency of Virtualization Tooling including Oracle Virtual Machine, Solaris LDOM's & Zones;
- Good knowledge of UNIX/Linux Kernel and OS architecture accompanied with advanced UNIX/Linux administration skill;
- Good knowledge and experience with:
- DNS, NTP, DHCP, SSH, scp and sFTP Servers and clients;
- Encryption methods, SSL certificates and SSH passwordless authentication
- IP Networking, Network protocols: TCP, UDP, SNMP, SMTP and ICMP and network commands
- Shell script and ansible
- Traps/Agents
- Good knowledge of iptables and Firewall principles;
- Familiarity with the operation and configuration of network interface card installation, Switches, Routers and similar components;
- Excellent knowledge of RedHat packaging system (RPM);
- Knowledge of Virtualization Technology (VMWare, Citrix Administration, Netscaler) and XFS file systems;
- Very strong troubleshooting skills of system and network related problems - mastering of wireshark/tcpdump and other system troubleshooting tools
- Expertise in administration of Apache Web Servers including installation, configuration, monitoring, upgrade and Web Application installation;
- Scripting skills in python and Perl are of great advantage;
- Experience with containarization and automation technologies: docker, Kubernetes, OpenStack;
- Awareness of security, hardening and patching;
- Awareness of Logical Volume disk management (Solaris Volume Manager & ZFS);
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and offer effective solutions under tight deadlines;
- Effective time management, communication and organizational skills;
- Strong inter-personal communication skills, must be flexible and team player whilst retaining the ability to be self-reliant and work unsupervised;
- Must be able to learn new technologies and techniques quickly - often without formal training;
- Must have a very high level of self-motivation;
- In possession of a valid EU work permit;
- Good command of the English language - other languages are a plus;
- Flexibility in working hours;
- Experience in multinational and multicultural environments;
- Optional skills would include: VMware, Oracle engineered Systems, Veritas Volume manager;
