Description

Global Energy Trading Company has an exciting opportunity for a Python Developer with Trading experience to join a trading portfolio to assist in delivering solutions across the full software development life cycle. The primary focus is for the developer to deliver solutions to the business quickly and in a collaborative manner with a variety of IT stakeholders.

Location: Central London
Day Rate: £438.61 - £493.43 (PAYE rate)
Duration: 12 months
IR35: Inside

The Role:

The Python Developer will work as part of a cross-functional delivery team within this Global Energy Trading team to support the development and evolution of the platform initiative utilising the latest cutting-edge technologies. As a Developer within this team, you will work closely with data architects, engineers, and business support resources to deliver software, configuration and installation support to enable the mobilisation and evolution of the platforms.

Specific activities include but are not limited to:

* Work collaboratively with the Data Architects and Data Engineers to develop and design the Trading data platform
* Delivery of software which may include but is not limited to new development, configuration and installation of third-party packages
* Provide insight and perspectives on software integration and development decisions
* Help coordinate the design and then implementation of data solutions which support high amounts and velocity of data, supports future growth, use latest data technologies/techniques, is cloud supported and in-line with the companies strategies.
* Support and apply an Agile Framework within his/her operating environment.

Skills and Requirements

* 4+ years' of corporate IT experience with data platforms; working with large data sets, large amounts of data in motion and numerous big data technologies.
* Strong Python experience in SciPy, NumPy, Pandas
* Good hands-on working knowledge of Multi-Threading
* Good hands-on working knowledge of Cloud Computing
* Good hands-on working knowledge of Application Security
* Experience with Bokeh although Flask would work as an alternative.
* Good understanding of Software engineering principals eg SOLID principles
* Experience with data Architecture and design techniques (local/abstract) including Azure API techniques/developments
* Experience of Agile Project Delivery techniques (eg Scrum, Kanban).
* Awareness of data pipelining-based technologies (eg KAFKA, StreamSets)
* Have good interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills. Comfortable in communicating with business colleagues and working in cross-functional global teams
* Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and balancing multiple priorities.
* Analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
* Knowledge and interest of Trading and Supply (commodity) businesses is preferable

Expectations and challenges of the role:

* Able to deal with state of the art, differentiated and often unproven technologies which require some learning on the job
* Comfortable with sometimes vague and changing scope and priorities in a rapidly changing environment
* Ability to interact and build relationships both within Shell (IT & Business teams) and external software suppliers.
* Fast adaptability to the ever-changing environment within Shell-Digital and in the external market
