Contract Assignment: Senior SPLUNK Engineer
Location: Remote (UK-based)
Duration: 8 weeks
Rate: Negotiable (inside IR35 Scope)
Start Date: August 2020
Overview
Design, test and deploy of Splunk dashboards to provide enterprise monitoring for an enterprise chat application and supporting infrastructure. Working on a large Investment Banking assignment.
Scope

  • Work as a Senior Splunk Engineer in conjunction with a Senior Technical PM
  • Core activities including but not limited to: data validation, dashboard design, metric definition, release planning and implementation

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analysis of current Splunk deployment for monitoring a chat application, including data gathering and dashboard representation
  • Validation of data within Splunk in-line with metric requirements for new dashboards
  • Dashboard design based on the validated requirements
  • Documentation of the dashboard design including metric details and operational runbooks
  • Implement dashboards into test and production environments
  • Collaboration with Splunk Operations and Service Owner teams throughout the project life cycle

REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive experience working with Splunk in an engineering project capacity
  • Must have relevant Splunk engineering experience in a Global Financial organization
  • Splunk Certification preferable
  • Must have excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Experience in search, deployment and development, such as:
    • Data normalisation (CIM)
    • Building a series of interconnected dashboards/an entire app
    • Transactions, and other complex search patterns/results
    • Report acceleration, summary indexing, tstats, etc.
    • Splunk reports/data outside of Splunk and into other tools
    • Data input filtering with regex/configs
    • Use of deployment server to maintain apps on SH/indexers (outside of clustering), surgical DS reloading, etc.
    • Editing simple XML and using simple XML extensions
  • Integration experience with key management platforms (eg AD/LDAP, SSO, etc.)
  • Rigorous attention to detail, strong organisational skills and able to work to tight deadlines
  • Confident working both independently and collaboratively across internal, external and hybrid teams
  • Proactive and passionate mindset with an inquisitive nature to understand the customer's environment in an approachable manner
  • Familiarity with working in an Agile manner (eg Sprints, daily stand-ups, etc.)
