Database Administrator - Rome, Italy

Skills and Experience:

  • At least 7 years of experience in installing, configuring, administering, operating and maintaining Oracle database systems in Unix/Linux environment.
  • At least 5 years of experience in MS SQL Server, MySQL and/or PostgreSQL database administration.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data management.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in managing Oracle Databases, PostgreSQL, MySQL and MS SQL.
  • Proven knowledge in monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise monitoring tool (OEM) and MySQL Enterprise Monitor.
  • Experience or knowledge of cloud computing environment, such as Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience and knowledge of Oracle v11, v12c and RMAN.

Description of Work:

  • Responsible for data management and the optimal operation of the corporate database infrastructure (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server and MySQL) in line with policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot status of corporate databases and their performance, among other tasks such as ETL, scheduled jobs, backups, integration, database logs, and alerts/events from automated monitoring tools.
  • Perform daily operational housekeeping activities such as database disk usage, backups status, table consistency, schema maintenance, file system consistency, system and database logs.
  • Install, configure, administer, operate and maintain database instances.
  • Database patching for security and bug fixes and managing migration plans for old database engines to support platform, to ensure the optimal operation of the corporate database infrastructure.
  • Perform second and third level problem resolution on the database infrastructure for all users.
  • Diagnose and solve the cause for interruptions or other technical problems in database services, as necessary, together with software vendor support.
  • Assist in organising and implementing production changes following the established change management process.
  • Ensure documentation is created, maintained and accurate for database activities and procedures.
  • Implement preventive maintenance in order to identify problems, bottlenecks and opportunities of improvement.
  • Promote improvements to, and contribute to the security of, the infrastructure by adopting best practices, emerging technologies and high security standards.
  • Contribute to the technical growth of the team and draft technical/operational documentation to maintain the operational framework up-to-date.
