UX Designer - GDS - 3 months - £350-£400 Outside IR35 - Remote

The role:

We are looking for a UX Designer with experience in digital service and product design to work with our Central Government client on a project to allocate funding to education and learning providers across the UK.

You will be a great listener and communicator with a creative, structured and logical approach to problem solving and you will have experience working within multidisciplinary agile teams to design and build user-centric services.

We are specifically looking for pragmatic people with an appreciation of both business and user needs, who are happy to carry out a range of user-centred design activities including user interaction and visual design as well as user research, content design and usability testing.

Activities:

  • Create interaction and visual designs and the necessary content to support and guide development teams, designing iteratively.

  • Prepare interaction functionality, styling, and compliance in line with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standard and GOV.UK design system.

  • Ensure the team takes a user-centred, evidence-based approach to discovery, service design and delivery.

  • Ensure that user journeys are clearly documented and available to development teams and wider client stakeholders.

  • Support, coordinate and direct (as required) other researchers, designers and analysts, working collaboratively to plan and carry out user research and design activities.

  • Document all design output using the client's preferred documentation tools and ensure that design documentation is kept up to date.

  • May need to support and direct the team to prepare for and pass necessary GDS service assessments.

Required Experience:

  • Working in complex transformation programmes that deliver digital and data solutions ideally with government.

  • Lead and direct the design work to ensure translation of design prototypes into working software as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience in helping organisations adopt a user-centric approach to product/service design and development and embedding these practices into their agile workflow.

  • Must be able to use the GOV.UK Design System and incorporate the Service Standard design principles.

  • Experience of GDS user research methodologies and GDS assessments.

  • Ability to design user experience and build prototypes for testing, ensuring design is inclusive and accessible to everyone.

  • Ability to quickly grasp complex problems a team is trying to solve, and define user needs through supporting research activities.

  • Experience of defining user profiles/personas, high-level user journeys, service blueprints to understand the big picture' and ensure joined-up experiences.

  • Experience of defining more granular level user journeys and using appropriate wireframing/prototyping techniques and content designs to test concepts and support user stories consumed by the development team.

  • Experience of working in Agile delivery environments.

Whilst the role is remote, once it's safe to do so there maybe the requirement to occasionally travel into an office in either Coventry or London.
