Windows SME (VMWare)
Our client, a global supplier for IT services, requires an experienced Windows SME with strong VMWare experience, to join their team in their clients' office in Swindon.
This is 12 months temporary contract, to start on 1st of February. Remote work may be possible until covid abates
The right candidate will be responsible for install, configure and maintain VMware ESXi & vCenter Servers of version 4.1, 5.1, 5.5 and 6.0.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure and maintain VMware ESXi & vCenter Servers of version 4.1, 5.1, 5.5 and 6.0
- Troubleshoot and RCA of VMware infrastructure
- Performance analysis and tuning of VMware infrastructure
- Creation, migration, cloning, snapshots, backup, recovery and troubleshooting of Virtual machines
- Manage to VMware Server on L3 or L4 Levels
- Provide VMware support including incident and work requests within the virtualization infrastructure spanning multiple data centers, across multiple VMWare ESX environments
- Configure and optimize the virtual infrastructure
- Working with change tools to maintain client SLAs
- Monitor virtualization infrastructure and provide advice on capacity requirements
- Provide security compliance under relevant security policies
- Liaise on virtualization configuration with the Storage Systems Manager and System Administrators
- Provide support and advice to projects requiring IT platforms support
- Proactively manage the environment to prevent incidents from occurring
- Proactively identify inefficiencies in operations with the objective of improving the quality of the working
- Manage & Maintain Microsoft Hyper-V infrastructure
- Manage & Maintain VMware infrastructure
- Troubleshooting OS & server hardware related issues by coordinating with Datacenter Engineers
- Identify issues is Windows environment proactively
- Troubleshooting and break-fix of issues in Windows
- Health check of Windows environment
- Manage McAfee ePO server & manage latest DAT versions on all client systems
- Apply security patches to windows Servers using WSUS & SCCM tools
- Building & hardening windows Servers
- Analyse server logs & provide root cause analysis during major incidents
- Manage & maintain permissions on File Servers & NAS shares
Key Skills/Knowledge:
- Experience in P2V, VMotion and VMware virtual center
- Good hands-on experience in command line of ESX, diagnostics & troubleshooting of ESX server environment
- Good understanding of HA and DRS environment
- Experience in performance tuning of VMWare Servers and Virtual sessions and management of Servers' resources between virtual machines
- Experience and demonstrated skills in systems administration which includes; 24x7 operations, Virtualization environments (VMware) across multiple VMWare ESX environments, and Multiple data centers
- In depth knowledge in Windows Server 2003, 2003R2, 2008, 2008R2, 2012 and 2012R2
- In depth knowledge in DNS, DHCP and file services
