Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Primarily responsible for Unix (Solaris, some HP_UX) and Linux systems.
- Systems Administration of Unix (Solaris, some HP_UX) and Linux systems, running mission critical customer applications.
- Designing, planning, implementing, supporting, testing and documenting Linux and Unix systems.
- Designing, planning, implementing, supporting, testing and documenting backup, archive and restore.
- Designing, planning, implementing, supporting, testing and documenting SAN systems, disk layout and configurations.
- Disaster recovery and Business Continuity design, planning and testing.
- Provide input to bids and proposals and obtain quotes from suppliers to be used as input for bids.
- Produce detailed estimates and technical specifications for proposals and budgeting purposes.
- Perform benchmarking of applications on Linux and Unix based systems.
- Perform day to day system administration (such as user creation, disk configuration, troubleshooting, etc).
- Storage management using tools such as LVM.
- Providing 3rd line support, including out of hours support, to critical incidents and participation in on-call IT support rota.
- Analyze and troubleshoot production faults and determine the most effective course as a subject matter expert in an expedited manner.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Essential relevant and recent experience at an appropriate level in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 or CentOS 7.
Ideally relevant and recent experience at an appropriate level in -
- Solaris operating system
- Solaris Zones and LDOMs
- Solaris ZFS
- Sun/Oracle SPARC based hardware
- Red Hat Satellite Server
- CentOS Spacewalk
- Red Hat Kickstart
- Red Hat Logical Volume Manager
- Red Hat GlusterFS
- LAMP Stack
- Ansible
- HP Blade hardware
- VMWare
- Centrify/AD Integration for Unix and Linux
- Unix Bourne & Korn Shell Scripting, Perl, AWK
- EMC VMAX3 series storage
- EMC Datadomain storage
- Cloud technologies eg MS Azure or Amazon AWS
Additionally experience in any of the following would be beneficial -
- Sun/Oracle 6000 series storage
- Oracle/Pillar Axiom 600 series storage
- Oracle ZFS Appliance series storage
- Sun/Oracle StorageTek Tape Libraries
- Fibre channel networks/zoning (preferably Brocade)
- Veritas Cluster Server
- Veritas NetBackup
- Veritas Storage Foundation
Qualifications
Desirable:
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator or a Red Hat Certified Engineer.
- Oracle Solaris 11 Certified Systems Administrator
- A university degree in a numerate subject (eg Computer Science, maths, engineering, natural science).
- A computer science qualification.
