Fresh Medical Recruitment has a new opportunity for a SHO in General Medicine in Midlands (East) from to . This requirement is for Short Term Locum.

Screening Physician required for industry leading Biomedical Research company.

Monday - Wednesday 1pm - 9pm & Saturday & Sunday 9am - 1pm, this will be for 2 months initially which may extend further if required.

You will be responsible for managing the process by which a volunteer/patient is medically screened to confirm eligibility for inclusion in Phase I and II clinical trials.

Qualifications/experience:
Full license to practice by the General Medical Council

A minimum of two years of postgraduate clinical experience which should normally involve direct patient care and experience of prescribing

ALS certificate issued within the last 4 years

Membership of a medical defence union to include work in the pharmaceutical industry

A scientific qualification (e.g. BSc) and/or postgraduate medical or scientific diploma or degree (e.g. MSc, PhD, MD, MRCP, MRCPath) is desirable but not essential

Duties:
To confirm eligibility of volunteers before being invited for study specific screening as required.

This involves taking informed consent i.e. explaining in laymen's terms the important ethical and safety aspects of the trial. Thereafter, taking a detailed medical history, performing a physical examination and assessing investigations including vital signs, ECGs and clinical laboratory reports.

Each study will have a different eligibility criteria and subjects must comply with all criteria to be eligible for inclusion. The screening physician is required to ensure that the volunteer /patient meets these criteria following the screening assessment.

As part of the screening assessment, a report is requested from each volunteer's /patient's GP. The screening physician is required to review the report to ensure that the subject still meets the criteria for the trial. On occasion, certain aspects of the report may require further clarification e.g. to confirm details of current prescribed medication or details of a previous medical event. It is the responsibility of the screening physician to contact the GP to clarify such information.

The screening physician will be required to work as part of a team that includes volunteer recruitment personnel, clinical technicians, nurses, clinical research physicians, project managers and a principal investigator -who has overall responsibility for each individual trial.
You will be required to read and understand all study protocols and volunteer information consent documents, all relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and will be required to attend any relevant study meetings and maintain an internal training record.

Pay Rate for this locum is up to £40 per hour depending on experience.

* GMC registration
* Permission to work in the UK
* Relevant experience

Experience of working in the NHS would be advantageous. Assistance will be provided with regard to accommodation and travel arrangements.
