Description
My client in the Defence Sector is looking to recruit a Marine Design Engineer for a 12 month contract based in Scotstoun. The role holder will require a wide knowledge of Marine Engineering, and Naval Ship design experience in order to fulfil this role. The output from the projects' Capability Decision Point in October 2011 will be a definition of the high level platform capabilities chosen by the MOD customer and the Senior Marine Engineer will be involved in the development of the system solutions required to meet the selected capabilities. As the project moves though stage 1 design system analysis and calculation will be required in order to develop and validate the solutions presented at the Capability Decision Point.
You would be responsible for the following:
- Produce system specification documents and develop/document solutions to meet the specification and cost.
- Produce Technical Equipment Specifications for the equipment within area of responsibility.
- Develop system diagrams (schematics) detailing the design of the system.
- Develop a Bill of Materials for systems within area of responsibility.
- Assessment of key technical data received from suppliers of equipment in area of responsibility.
- Support to project design and requirements reviews as required.
You should be able to demonstrate the following skills and competencies:
- Ships Auxiliary Systems design experience.
- BEng Mechanical/Marine Engineering (preferred)
- HND and relevant experience in lieu.
- Experience of SHE Leadership
- Experienced design engineer required
- Design experience in the marine environment is strongly preferred
- Experience of fluid system design
- Capable of performing as Subject Matter Expert for given fluid systems, maintaining design intent through build phase
- Competent in fluid dynamics and pressure/flow calculations
- Competent in MS Office applications
- Capable of preparing design related documentation as required to convey design intent
- Capable of reviewing design documentation/data and supplier documentation/data
- Knowledge of marine propulsion systems an advantage
